| amg800 (15), Ada, Michigan | | August 14, 2009 Besides all the horse poop that was scattered behind the brewery in the very small parking lot it was awesome! Love the relaxed feel of being able to walk up and order your own beer/food instead of having servers constantly checking in. Beer selection was excellent. Shorts offers a wide variety of styles. Bellaire is very touristy for lack of a better word, but near by Torch Lake is amazing. I spent a week on the water there. | | Sammy (273), Toronto, Ontario | | August 6, 2009 A touristy area, relaxed, and that filters into the brewpub. Exceptionally friendly service, everyone seems to acknowledge you are there, and with a smile. Many, many bottles and varieties available, easing the travel burden. Many beers, mostly one-offs, on tap and there were some very good ones. | | nbutler11 (71), Phoenix, Arizona | | July 28, 2009 Next to Founders, this is the best beer bar in Michigan. Amazing array of their beers on tap and in bottles. Fast and knowledgeable service in a very artistic and hip space. Not to be missed if you’re in their quiet neck of the wood in Bellaire. | | Headbanger (44), Aurora, Illinois | | April 6, 2009 A nice little brewery in the middle of nowhere. Great tasting brews and the food while not a big selection was pretty tasty. Everyone I ran across was very nice and helpful. Cool decorating inside. Must of changed the 4.50 for 2 beers. | | lampeno420 (11), Zeeland, Michigan | | February 16, 2009 Great little brewery that smelled of malt and grains as soon as you enter. Had 2 of their beers on tap and a good price. The waitresses were all very friendly and knowledgeable of everything there. Had a sandwich PACKED with turkey which was great, but a little pricey. Looks like a lot of fun at night on the dance side. Tons of old beer cans/micro bottles lined the back of the room. Worth the drive if you can stay for a while, or have someone drive you home. | | aaaaaaaaaah (14), Warren, Michigan | | February 11, 2009 16 beers on tap. Located in down town Bellaire in an old hardware shop. There are two main rooms, one with the taps and another with a stage. I’ve been there a few times when they had local bands. Beers are good. Great place to visit. | | bigtaster (24), Grand Rapids, | | February 10, 2009 Nice place with some character, with a small town feel. The pizza seemed like a frozen pizza they just put into the oven and served. The beer was great and decently priced. Friendly and nice crowd, will try to make it there again sometime. | | northernbrews (10), Allen Park, Michigan | | January 13, 2009 I’ve been to Short’s quite a bit over the last 4 plus years they’ve been open.
I usually stop in here at least once every time I’m up north at my mom’s lake cottage on Intermediate Lake.
Ambiance: This is located in an old hardware store in downtown Bellaire. The interior is very cool. It kind of reminds me of Bell’s Eccentric café with the unique art and set-up.
Service: The service here is usually very good. All the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the food and beers. They are always giving non-locals help picking out something good. .
Selection: They have by far the best selection I’ve seen at a brewpub, period. It’s actually quite amazing that a small brewpub in northern MI can offer so many tasty, unique, and damn good beers at one time. First they offer the 13 Imperial Beers for either takeout or to enjoy at the pub. They also offered the 3 Anniversary IPA’s . Too bad they’re out of the grapefruit. For the beers on tap, there are usually about 10 – 15 regular beers ($4.50 for 2 | | gearbike (11), West Bloomfield, Michigan | | October 6, 2008 [ Updated October 19, 2008 ] Solid good beer in a brew pub that captures the small town feel of this great little up north town. Beer is good but no real big stouts. Did not eat food selection limited. | | kmweaver (113), Sebastopol, California | | September 18, 2008 [ Updated September 20, 2008 ] Cozy little brewpub way up in northern Michigan. Great selection of beers on tap, sixteen total when we visited, along with a ton of other beers available in bottles (if at a really high price for the imperial series). The vegetarian food is a bit limited, with the cheese / vegetable sandwich being almost completely unhealthy (tons of gooey cheese and oily vegetables), but tasty nonetheless. Solid, excellent selection of beers, with good service and lots of great bottles. That said, those familiar with the imperial series of beer in bottles might be a touch disappointed by the selection on tap, and big beers seem to be where this brewery shines. Altogether, definitely a great stop in northern Michigan, and (let’s be honest with ourselves) there’s really nothing else around. |
