| rustychiles (10), Mesa, Arizona | | November 9, 2009 At the Lost Abbey you won’t find much else than a couple of brew tanks, and a big stack of barrels full of their barrel aged beers unless they are holding a special event, but when they throw a party they sure know how to do it in style.
Their brewery is in an industrial area, there is a modest tasting bar, and you are surrounded by barrels and brewtanks and their bottling line. For some this is good ambience, and I enjoy it but it may be a turn off for some.
If you do have the chance to attend a special event at the Lost Abbey they like to turn the loading dock into Chef Vince’s portable outdoor kitchen and they serve some amazing food up.
They also offer bottles to go, which vary depending on the seasonal beers or special releases as well as growler fills.
For me it’s sort of a "it is what it is" kind of thing. And it works for them. Well worth visiting for a special event, or if you’ve never been during their tasting hours. | | NEA (10), California | | August 8, 2009 Port brewing’s Lost Abbey line of beer is some of the best in the world. They do Belgian style beer like no one else (other than the Belgians). They are located in Stone’s old location and we wish they would move on to a larger location so they can make more of their barrel aged beers. Here’s to Angel’s Share! | | m4rest88 (14), Beverly Hills, California | | July 3, 2009 Not a bad place.
Went there with a friend after a trip stone. Had some interesting things on tap, and a pretty good bottle selection. Laid back place. The lady that works behind the counter is very nice, seems to enjoying her job quite a lot, and that is good to see - I wish i remembered her name though.
The brewery is in an industrial location, but that is ok - the beer makes up for the mediocre location! | | CaptainCougar (139), Rockville, Maryland | | June 14, 2009 The few times I’ve been here was mostly to pick up beers and leave, although I’ve stayed for a few rounds before. The seating consists of half-barrel kegs with 50lb bags of malt draped over them. Not very comfortable, but the quality of the beer helps you to forget that fact. Last time in they had at least a dozen taps, with most of the regulars and one or two barrel aged specialties. The value for trying the beers on tap there is very good compared to the bottled cost. This is certainly a brewery worth visiting, especially to see the tremendous amount of barrels everywhere. | bennylava (6), California does not count - explanation | | May 2, 2009
Brewery in an industrial location, but inside taste area is nice with a fairly long bar with some stools (made from kegs and grain bags). Much more crowded than Green Flash when we went, but if you do the tasting you won’t regret it. They probably have 10 Port and 10 Lost Abbey beers to taste, and I think they charged $5 for the two of us total although we didn’t try all 20 but at least 10 each. They gave us a preview sample of the Port 3rd anniversary which wasn’t officially released until the next weekend. After this, we went off to Stone, Green Flash/Lost Abbey/Stone in one day, a great day for beer! | | JohnnyJ (29), Carlsbad, California | | April 24, 2009 Great brewery, awesome beer. My opinion is effected though because every time I’m there it is for a special release and it’s always crowded with long lines, and they are slow. It’s worth the wait though. | | can8ianben (67), Pasadena, California | | March 1, 2009 A wonderful brewery (or is it two?) to visit if you are in the area. Tastes on Angels Share release day were only a buck for pretty much everything - a steal compared to their bottle prices in stores. Atmosphere is just a warehouse with a ton of barrels full of incredible aging beers. A Belgian lovers paradise but also a place for the hop lover and the big beer lover.
| | maniac (90), Richmond, Virginia | | January 21, 2009 Visited on day two of RBSG2008. Wonderful selection of beers. For $10 we sampled all of the Lost Abbey line that they had at the moment. Loaded with barrels of beer. It was a tad hot, but with enough fans, the place cooled down. Great food, though not a regular occurance. The sours certainly cleared out the hangover from the previous night. | | kmweaver (113), Sebastopol, California | | November 27, 2008 Great stop before heading back to Carlsbad for pizza and beer. Tons of barrels stacked up along most walls, friendly (if occasionally inattentive) barstaff, and most standard LA / Port Brewing beers. Tomme was kind enough to open up a rare bottle for us while we were there; otherwise the tap selection was diverse but accessible elsewhere, and we only ended up getting served about half of the beers of a $6 sampler. Whatever, as the people there are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about beer. Worthwhile stop. | | illinismitty (224), Nashville, Tennessee | | September 18, 2008 Before you read further, they do no serve food. I attended during RBSG in which they prepared and served food for this event only. This is yet another brewery located in an industrial park (old Stone location). The front reception area has bottles and Tshirts for sale. The tap/ tasting area is in the wharehouse, surrounded by lots and lots of barrels. No air conditioning, so be aware of that on hot days. Tomme really rolled out the red carpet for us. For $10, we got to sample a dozen or so very rare beers. For another $10, we had this stellar mexican taco bar with carnitas, chicken, and carne asada along with all the homemade fixins. It was some of the best slow cooked meat I have ever had. Tomme is brewing some great stuff and is cranking out new and interesting beers. Definitely stop by. |
