66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 PhilHarmstead (2) Vermont | May 15, 2013 Amazing menu of beers, no denying. But the dudes who work there have their heads up their asses. Used to be a MUST-SEE for me in Maine...but I’d rather skip the snooty attitude and skip straight to the Great Lost Bear instead! | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 rickhall28 (125) Denville, New Jersey | March 11, 2013 This place is it for me when in Portland...or anyplace between Boston and Lovell, Maine (Ebenezer’s). I love the low ceilings and the stone. It’s also tough to find for a first-timer...which just adds to the allure. Add an amazing beer list and tap offering along with some great food...and you have a very winning combination. This is a must visit when in the area...and worth a detour if not. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 Imaena (28) Atlanta, Georgia | February 23, 2013 One of the best bars in New England hands down. A must visit if you are in Portland.
| 88 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 spence3208 (6) Maine | February 13, 2013 All I can say is wow! There beer menu is about 6 pages long, and they have beers on tap you don’t see anywhere. I hear the do several tap take overs, which I’ll be sure to keep an eye on. All in all a must go to place. Not just in Portland but in new England! | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 jabersquawk (2) Portland, Maine | January 2, 2013 Great atmosphere, and a good line up of beers on tap and in the cellar. Food: portions are small; service is at times slow, but knowledgable. If you're in Portland you should make the effort to stop by for a pint. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 adamjackson (112) Canaan, New Hampshire | December 5, 2012 What a cool bar! Had some great convos with staff and the owner. Beer geeks everywhere and it’s one of the only american bars I’ve been in where you can share your beer out of the glass with a stranger and they totally dig it! | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 ranie (3) | November 3, 2012 This place is unbelievably good. Located down an alley in the Old Port, it is hard to find but well worth the effort. The draft selection is varied, local, and extremely fresh. The bottle selection is deep, and of extremely high quality. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This could very well be the best beeer bar we have ever visited, including a few in Belgium. We can’t wait to come back. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 jrallen34 (271) Chicago, Illinois | October 7, 2012 Huge expectations, but in the end didn’t live up to them.
Very cool location, love the beer garden, decor inside a bit boring.
Service was too busy to be helpful or personable, had 3 different servers in roughly 2 hours.
The draft list gets a big do-over. Half the list was Sierra Nevada due to an event the night before. A couple nice locals, but I feel like I missed out big time.
Bottle list was great, Cantillon available, decent pricing.
A nice touch was the beer program for ticking specific beers.
Food was supremely disappointing. Gross pate, and horrendous sausage. Did have some outstanding rosemary ham.
Not a destination bar as I was lead to believe. If in town check it out, but not our of your way. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 watson1977 (114) The dub c, Pennsylvania | October 5, 2012 Very cool Belgian bar with a warm atmosphere. Great service (bartenders were Russel and a cute blond girl). Small menu of some specialties, paninis, meat and cheese plates...my panini was excellent! Beer selection is pretty amazing...lots of great bottles and tough to find stuff, great mix of import and local drafts. Very fair prices. Id go back every time in portland. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (464) Toronto, Ontario | August 16, 2012 A classy restaurant with a large patio. Pretty pretty good cellar list and decent tap list, with correct poured temperature and over a large bar. Hard to find, we circled one way streets a few times until I found a tourist map with the clue on how to enter by foot. A number of weird and ordinary people here, they make up a good part of the city but in the end they are harmless. |
