COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tongerlo Prior is a full-bodied beer with fruity notes that develop into a spicy and slightly flowery bitterness of hops. An authentic abbey ale, the age-old tradition of the White Canons of Tongerlo lives on in this officially recognised Belgian abbey ale. Re-fermentation in the bottle gives this beer a more intense taste and aroma as well as a longer shelf life. Tongerlo Prior was chosen as the best European blond abbey/trappist ale in the 2011 World Beer Awards.

Photogeny (194) - FRANCE - FEB 26, 2023

theprof (4289) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - JAN 27, 2023
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2023 Bottle. Poured clear pale golden body full foaming white top. The aroma is certainly floral. Taste is lemon and grapefruit with a peppery back note. Medium sweet to bitter with the spiciness evident in the finish. Medium bodied, drying in the mouth, average + carbonation, and a spice finish. I am not a great Tripel drinker and if I had spotted the 9% I might have waited to share the bottle. Still it is pleasant and refreshing

Scopey (24181) - Oldmeldrum, SCOTLAND - DEC 15, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2022 330ml bottle from HoTM. It pours clear rich golden with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is quite fragrant and floral upfront, cereal, hay, touch of nougat, estery fruits, pear, honeydew melon and apple crumble. The taste is fairly dry and crisp upfront, snappy, bitter - sweet character, sponge cake, honey drizzle, nougat, hint of spice, pear, melon, toffee apple, sugar almonds and a kick of booze withe a dry, warming finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Well put together. A nice example of the style.

snowcrash000 (2268) - Cologne, GERMANY - MAR 27, 2022
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2022 Pours a cloudy, dark golden amber coloration with a small, fizzy head and visible carbonation. Smells of doughy, caramel malt and estery fruit and spice, with a distinct banana note and hints of clove, with not a lot of hops being noticeable. Taste is a decent balance of doughy, caramel malt and strong banana esters, as well as some clove, nutmeg and hints of floral, citrus hops. Finishes with a medium/strong sweetness and some banana and clove lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. While this makes for a decent Tripel, it's not to my personal taste at all, being fairly sweet and boozy, with a very strong banana presence and little hops or bitterness coming through. I seriously never picked up this much banana in a Tripel, while I prefer the fruity esters to be more on the apple, pear, apricot side and think that a strong hoppiness is very important to the balance of a Tripel, but then again, this may just be really old, the best-by date is only 5 months away. At least there's a pretty noticeable spiciness to this, which I can apprecite, with distinct clove and lighter nutmeg and black pepper, while body and mouthfeel are fairly full as well.
