Commercial Description:
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a moderate fluffy white head. Aroma is citrus, hay and some spice. Flavor is similar, with some additional citrus hops. Mouthfeel is moderate, but thicker and smoother than most saisons. Very nice.

Rating #1900 - Sampled on draft far too many times at St. Louis Microfest. Pours fairly clear yellow / golden with a small white head. The aroma has lots of hops (pine, floral, citric) along with some funkiness from brett and some barnyard type traits. Medium grainy funky body with semi-sharp carbonation. The taste starts off with earthy, floral hops, some lightly toasted malt, light caramel and funked up brett yeastiness. The finish is dry at first, then some malt shows up, followed by lingering funky grainy taste with hops still hanging in there as well. Massive thumbs up for this amazing gem of a beer.

Tap at Falling Rock - turbid gold with a well-sustained head, that leaves lace clinging all the way down the glass as you drink - a bit sweet (apple) and phenolic up front, but it dries out pretty fast - some subtle rustic, earthy, almost funky character to it - some herbal, grassy flavors, even a bit peppery - starts to get even more dry, and even flinty at the end, and through the finish, leaving a crisp, dry feeling on the tongue - a very nice saison, but I would like a little less sweetness up front.

Bottle: The aroma ia very floral along with yeast, lemon, and pepper. It pours a hazy golden-orange with lots of sediment and a large white head. The flavor starts with light sweet citrus and yeast. The some very faint lemon in the background. The finish is moderately floral along with some orange peel and a hint of pepper. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and somewhat creamy mouthfeel.

On tap at Ciceros. Body is a gold with a decent head and spicy aromas of pepper, cloves, grass and honey. Flavor us heavily spicy with a bit of alcohol and sweet malt flavors of honey and pear and grass and lemon in the finish.

On tap @ the Crescent Moon. Clear yellow golden with a 1 1/2 finger white head, good retention. Big citrus rind and herbal hop nose with peppery notes, hay, pear and apples, some alcohol, and Belgian yeast behind. Flavor continues to have plenty of hops with everything else following suit. Bitterness peaked @ a 4 in the semi-dry finish, alcohol masked pretty well. Light prickly carbonation with a medium body. Very good beer--had a ccouple samples at the Great Taste as well.

On tap at Trinity in Colorado Springs. Kind of like a hoppy belgian IPA. Light yellow color. Foamy head, Saison aroma. Fruity, lightly sweet. Nice.

I have sampled this beer at least 6 times on tap, but I’ve been too lazy to rate it. It pours a cloudy gold with a large fluffy, white head and sticky lace. Bright pale and wheat malt with sweet fruity and grassy hop notes in support; quite nice. On the light side of medium-bodied and softly carbonated with a mildly wheaty and dry mouthfeel at the finish. The flavor follows the nose with a nice softly grainy blend of malts and floral and grapefruit hops. I can’t entirely quantify why I like this beer so much...I just do.
