Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Draft. Probably out of a keg that’s been open too long. Poured amber, some spices etc, mine was flat but i’m blaming the keg not the beer.

Pours hazy orange to copper with a huge, creamy head. The aroma has lots of herbal and lemony hops. Caramel malty backbone. Light spiciness from the yeast. Tastes bitter and resiny infusing with caramelly sweetness in the finish. Medium bodied, smoothly carbonated and soft palate with bitter sensation. Cosiderably hoppier than average Chrstmas beer. Good stuff.

33 cL bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with small but persistent beige head. The aroma is a bit musty with herbal hops, lemon zest, a touch of burnt sugar, some sweetish light malt, and a bit of a floral waft. The flavor is a mellow fruitiness at first with kiwi, canteloupe, lemon, and some distant orange. Then a refreshingly assertive hoppiness kicks in with a strong herbal bitterness. A lovely, soft maltiness lingers in the background for balance. The finish is lemon and oak, and fades into a somewhat sweet aftertaste. I like this.

Bottle. While very good, I was not totally blown away by this beer. Poured pure golden in color with a pure white head. Grassy hop aroma with some bitter citrus. Flavor had some zing, fruity malts, a bit of pepper. In the end, it really was just a lighter XX to me.

Bottle. Pours a hazy copper toned body with a fluffy white head. Dry floral rustic and earth toned with pine accents. A sweeter citrus light caramel and bread y body with a soft drying spiced carbonation finish. A nice ale.

Bottle - 330ml. Hazy dark gold body with a decent white foamy head. Good hoppy aroma with fruity and herbal hints. Its sharp hoppy taste hides the alcohol pretty well and carries herbal and spicy notes. Ends with a good bitter/herbal finish. Enjoyable.

From a bottle poured light amber with a good amount of head. Nice hoppy flavor with a lasting aftertaste.

Tap at Sunswick. Didn’t blow me away. Some interesting spiciness. Yes, some nice hop/malt balance, and decenlty rich character. I will continue looking, but I did enjoy this stop along the way.
