Black oily pour with a thin tan head. Bitter roast and chocolate nose. Loads of roast as well. Mouthfeel is viscous and oily. Flavor is bitter Roast all the way through. chocolate malt, and deep earthy bitterness emanate off of this. Rich and very nice

Bottle, pours a dark black with a frothy one finger dark brown head, good lacing. Roasty aroma of cocoa, nuts, and coffee. Flavor is a heavier malty roast with more coffee and chocolate. Palate is medium-full with medium-low carbonation and a dry finish. Not a bad porter; Dark Horse is living up to its reputation quite nicely.

Pours motor oil black with thin burgundy rings when held to light. The 2 finger creamy tan head has decent retention and fades to a nice thick skim and ring after a while. Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted almonds, lots of roast, herbal hops, a little char, burnt sugar, coffee, and dry forest earthiness. Flavor is dark roast coffee, rich dark chocolate, loads of roast, an odd nip of blackberry, plums, a hint of fresh cut grass, a little earthy smoke. Toffee, roasted nuts, lighter roast malt, caramel and bitter hops to finish. Palate is medium thickness with a lightly syrupy feel and a slightly too sharp level of carbonation. Finish seems to coat the tongue, feels a little oily.

This rating is overdue, and a nice one for number 400. Poured a dark blackish color with a small tan head. Nose is a ton of coffee, lotsa roasty malts too. Flavor is bitter roasted malts, nice hop bitterness to balance things slightly. Full bodied and smooth...I really like the coffee all the way through this one. Nice dry finish....great ale!

(bottle, thanks olso2116) Pours very dark with a dark tan head. Heavy aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and some hops too. Taste of coffee, dark chocolate, with a smoky character as well along with a nice hop bitterness on the finish. Pretty good stuff, and even better the second time I had it.

Dark as midnight with a gorgeous brown head. Nose is filled with dark/roasty malts, subtle chocolate and coffee notes. Medium to full bodied with definite porter/stout qualites. Smooth malts laced with chocolate along with strong hopping making for a powerful bitterness.(Maybe a bit too much?) Good stuff. Thank you psychprof.
