J_man (1282) - Tustin, California, USA - FEB 19, 2021UPDATED: FEB 19, 2021 Finally opening this a little over 8 years from when it was supposed to have been opened. This appears to be an opaque black beer until held to strong light where it shows that it's a clear, dark brown and ruby color with a finely laced dark tan head. Aroma has molasses, dark chocolate and something a little off I can't quite place (it's much older than it should be). The flavor, however, seems to be fresh and right where it should be. More molasses with bittersweet dark chocolate and cocoa powder, along with a vanilla creaminess. The alcohol seems subdued for 8.6% and it balances perfectly with the strong roasted malt. Slight grain huskiness in the middle which is nice and a bit of juicy fruit sweetness. There's definitely some bitterness in here to balance all the malt, but it's so well balanced you don't notice it. Texture is full but not thick which makes this very drinkable. Finishes with a lasting dark chocolate and cocoa aftertaste and some woody notes. Wow, I wasn't expecting this to be so good after having it so far after the 'open by' date, but this has really held up well. I think it's a bit like an aged Sublimely Self-Righteous. I'm glad I still have another one of these to enjoy!
cobaink2 (1438) - seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 29, 2019UPDATED: JUL 29, 2019 22 oz beer from super deli mart in seattle. Cracked open at 10 years old. Tastes of plums, Indian spices and Belgian yeast. Quite different but expected from this series.
TEJA (5753) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JAN 19, 2019UPDATED: JAN 19, 2019 Bottle sampled at Peter Högström domesday sampling 190119. No head and a very dark color. A bit of soy aroma. A very smooth dark light roasted malt taste. Mild bitterness.
Jabah (2555) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - APR 24, 2018This reminded me more of a strong/imperial porter versus Belgian Ale. Flavor starts off with the malts with a hoppy/yeasty Belgian feeling finish (2 of favorite styles!) Very malty with the alcohol hidden quite well. I wish I would have read the bottle first, which recommends aging until sometime after 12/12/12....but hey, I would have been curious anyways and probably would have cracked. This was sooo good though, I am going to run out and grab one to age for a few years. I could see how it could be even better then. Super dark appearance, but not mud thick like and IPS. Tons of flavors going on, but nothing too overwhelming. Great balance.....One of my favorites.

solidfunk (19961) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - JAN 27, 2018Strange vibe for a Belgian. Chocolate and oak are the main factors here like prime numbers. Dark brown pour with good head and lacing. Bottle.
