Commercial Description:
Named after one of the famous ’front four’ trails on Mt. Mansfield, this I.P.A. is brewed in the English tradition of pale ales shipped from Britain, around Africa, to India. Those ales contained extra hops and a higher alcohol percentage, which both served as natural preservatives. This ale holds true to those original, defining characteristics.

Thanks to weeare138. Shiny metallic gold body with a loose sudsy white head. Musty, ripe citrus aroma. Flavor has Shed signatures with aspects of whole grapefruits and a lightly tart impression. Nice lacerative, lingering bitter finish. Has a light aspirin quality and some mild astringency, but pleasing overall. Looks like he dialed this one in over time.

Good, strong IPA. Had some on draft at Ri Ra in Burlington. Lovely orange color, sweet hop aroma, nice bitter, hoppy taste with notes of grapefruit and other citrus, dry, lip-smacking finish. Tasty.

(draft) Hazy amber body with off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, floral/orange, some pine, spice, light bread. Taste is medium sweet, spice, floral/orange, earthy. Light-medium body. Not going to be mistaken for a West Coast IPA, but solid beer nonetheless.

Tap at Vermont Brewer’s Fest 2009. Hazy amber pour. White head. The nose is loaded with UK/woody hops but without the sort of lighter spicy notes that I like. A fairly decent amount of dry-hopping. Light esters. It’s sort of a light UK-esque IPA. Improves a bit as it warms up.

Draft at brewpub. Mild citrus aroma. Orange body with an off-white head. Flavor is well-balanced, predominantly grapefruit. Lovely bitter finish. The best of the offerings I sampled at The Shed.

Draught. Pours a light golden color with a small white head. Nose of resin, earthy hops, lights malts. Intial mouthfeel is very light bodied and watery which is instant disappointment. The hop character is present for the IPA but there is little balance the 1 dimensional brew doesn’t do too much to satisfy the palate for IPA expectations. Average head retention. Palate duration is average.

Sampled at brewpub. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is faint citrus with notes of hay and straw. Flavor is pale malts, citrus, and has a touch of pine with a bitter finish

Not a great IPA. Gold colori wth no real head. I see another rater noticed what i did, no aroma to speak of! Where is the hop bite? Too much malt and grain flavor.

On tap always these days at the brewpub, but mediocre IPA. A bit of golden colour. No aroma. A pale in terms of hop and an odd bitterness. Some draping of lce, and thin head.
