Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Sweet, doughy nose with a touch of prunes, smells a little like blackberry brandy. A nice cloudy brown color. Tastes like sweet bread. Spicy like a Xmas beer with a strong wheat component. Malt a-go-go. Big, round mouth feel with a dry finish. High alcohol. Challenging and not for everyone, but I enjoy this stuff a lot.

Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo. Rating #1100! I was hoping to hit this on New Year’s Eve, but I was sick through some of the holidays, so that set my schedule back a bit. Ah, well, this was worth the wait. Murky reddish-brown with a small head and a very still body. Absolutely fantastic aroma with notes of dark pumpernickel bread, cherries, chicory, sweet malt and rich port. Smooth, soft mouthfeel. Flavour is not complex as the aroma suggests, but it’s still a nice combination of the yeasty/bready character and dark, rich fruit notes, with some alcohol warmth & dryness in the finish. It’s not the go-to beer that regular Aventinus is to me, but it’s still a very nice treat that I hope to enjoy again at some point.

Bottle (33 cl) from Systembolaget. Well, an upscaled Aventinus, and unfortunatley, the most distinguishing feature is a clear alcohol component. Still very good, but I will stick to the ordinary Aventinus.

Had this one at Falling Rock in Denver. Maybe it was the thin air, maybe it was the lovely night, but whatever it was this stuff was delicious. Crisp malt is tinged by an icy chocolate flavor. The alcohol is hidden nicely, so watch out with this one. Smooth, delicious, and worth a try.

Strong and lots of alcohol. Very warming. Sweet, pure flavor. Some spice in the aroma.

Banana clove smell, candi sugar spicy taste. It tasted like a high ABV brew, but it didn’t feel like 11%. If you like regular Aventinus, make sure you try its bigger brother. Thanks VENOM!

2006 bottle pours copper with a short tan head that fades pretty quick. Aromas of bannana, yeast, caramel, and raisin. Flavor is quite sweet with caramel and raisin as well. A good bannana sweetness and plenty of yeast. Smooth body with full sticky sweetness but adequate carbonation to offset it and make the mouthfeel pleasant.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color beer with a small dark foamy head with minimal retention. Aroma is just plain incredible –mix of dry fruits (figs, prunes and raisins) with some floral malt. Taste is also dominated by the sweet fruit aspect but doesn’t go overboard. Alcohol is well hidden and body is just above average. I probably wouldn’t drink more then one in a session but I would love to smell this aroma over and over again.
