Cask (Black Door)
Pungent hoppy aroma. Light brown, small loose head. Low carbonation. Big lemony citrus taste immediately - quite a kick, and a pleasant surprise. BEhind that there’s a soft malty taste, and some salty butter. Finish has some pungent and citrussy hops. Very tasty bitter.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml from Millets Farm, Frilford, Oxon. Sludgy orange amber with no head. I wonder when small UK breweries will realise that getting a BCA right is all about choosing the right yeast. No matter how carefully this was stored and poured it was impossible to stop it stirring up and then all you can taste is a mushy yeast flavour with background promise. Poor effort.

Cask in the market porter. Alround rating: Pale and caramel off the malt, clean, lemon and orange, sherbert, reasonably balanced but perhaps on the sweet side. Good.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 28/07/09. Copper coloured with a moderate, off-white head. Aroma of fruity malts and earthy hops. Flavour was compromised by the diacetyl which clashed head on with the hops. Not up to the usual Three Castles’ standard [2.8]. Re-rate at the same pub 1/03/10. Vastly improved, with the diactetyl gone and apricot, peach and well balanced, slightly piney hops. Enjoyable [3.4]

Cask Conditioned Gravity dispense Brackley Round Table BF. A copper coloured beer with a loose white head. Nice hoppy aroma with good orange notes. The taste has good citrussy hop flavours as well and is nicely bitter, but then right at the end a bit of diacetyl to spoil it somewhat.
