Commercial Description:
Dany, the offbeat brewer at Fantôme, will try anything, and the results are always interesting. A beer made from dandelions would be worth a try if only because no one has ever brewed one before, but the great news is that this is actually a very good beer.
Dany and some cohorts get busy every spring picking bushels of dandelions that grow in the fields around the picturesque farmhouse brewery. The yellow flowers are removed and dried in the sun, then soaked in water for a few days. The thick, dark dandelion “tea” that results is the basis for the Pissenlit, which is made also from traditional barley malt and hops. It resembles a classic saison beer – golden spritzy brew, strong and very flavorful, with a good hop bite. You may have to strain to taste the dandelions, but you know they’re in there.
It should be noted that uncooked, the dandelion has a diuretic effect and is known in France as Pissenlit (literally, "wet the bed" - this also happens to be the British folk-name) for precisely this reason.

Bottle from my Canadian Secret Santa cracked for ajm’s 1000+ affair. Pours a murky bronze color with a trim beige head. Smells of worchesthire sauce. Tastes of juicy naval oranges, flowers, caramel, pepper, and apple seeds. Non-infected Fantome = hooray!

Bottled 75cl. Vintage 2003. It pours a murky copper beer with a smallish head. Aroma of mustard seeds, cherry, cork, lemon peel, sorbet, herbs and vinegar- deeply inviting and complex. The taste is a little too yeasty for my tastes. Nice lacework. Apple sneaking in. Not much carbonation. The alcohol is very well hidden. Yeasty finish. Slightly dissapointing.

Awesome bottle shared by nbutler11. Glad I got to have a non-ass bottle of this. Nose of sunflower seeds (never thought I would say that), yeast and grain. Color a hazy brown-gold. Flavor was more sunflower seeds (still weird), that nice sweetish Fantome yeast, plus the clean grains of their Saison. Heavier than a usual saison but pretty refreshing.

750 ml bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a medium foamy white head. The aroma has some of the expected earthy funk that Fantome brings to the table as well as lemon citrus, apple juice, spices and floral notes. The flavor seems more tame than most Fantome beers and is very drinkable. The base is pale malt with a touch of caramel sweetness, but this is overshadowed by the lemon citrus that has lower acidity and a mild tart character. Hints of apple, mild spices, floral (I can assume dandelion but I haven’t eaten one in recent memory) with the expected earthiness. Medium-bodied and decently carbonated.

Pours a hazy yellow orange under a creamy white head. Initial nose is mild citrus and hops with hints of mild/sweet funk. This beer tastes initially of the light sweetness of over ripe tropical fruit countered immediately by a light sourness in perfect symmetry. Very nice effect. mouth feel is surprisingly smooth for this beer. Then the complexity begins. There is a slightly bitter grassy flavor, a slightly funky sour flavor, and a slightly sweet finish. Throughout there are passing hints of spices: cloves, lemon, but none dominate and they only serve to support a light, pleasant, unusual beer.

Pours dark golden color with minimal off white head. Aromas of malted barley and that Fantome smell (although not as strong as some of their oher brews). Flavor is slightly tart with some sweet malts, mild bitterness and some earthiness. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Another enjoyable beer from Fantome.

( .75L bottle thanks to blutt59) Pours opaque golden-orange with oily bubbles. Nose of wet oak, funk, cherries, spices, dandelion (floral). Taste of mild tart cherries and spices. Undercarbonated but a good beer overall.

Bottle. Pours a clear glowing bright orange golden with a fine frothy head. Aroma is quite citric, herbal, lightly bitter. Tastes like a very tart delicious Berliner Weiss, citric, great bitterness towards the finish, sharply tangy tart and sour, sour lemon candy, medium sweetness. Med/light bodied with fine fizzy carbonation but a tad thin. Tastes much like Chocolat but without the peppers and cocoa.
