2004 Autumn Brew Review: Copper Coloring. Plenty of Malt. I Could Have Sworn I Detected Some Barley. Toasted Flavor. Alcohol is Slightly Noticable. This One Makes you Stand At Attention. Very Tasty. Worth Keeping Around.

This fest is a caramel pecan cookie; sweet malts - I thought it would end up too sweet, but it didn’t - it went just fine with pizza. There was a nice bite of hop at the end. Body was smooth and creamy, but not very thick. You could drink plenty of these while sitting around a fall campfire.

Tap beer @ Groveland Tap in St. Paul. A fine oktoberfest but not very adventurous. A nice rich color with a malty and somewhat spicy aroma. Flavor is sweet and malty but not very complex for this style.

Bottle; tasted at River’s Bend. Matt pulled a bottle of this out of the cooler toward the end of the tasting... I was quite disappointed with this "Oktoberfest" brew. It didn’t seem to have any of the qualities that a true Oktoberfest/Märzen beer should have. This more or less tasted like a regular lager and actually had characteristics that reminded me of a wheat beer. As much as I love Oktoberfest and Märzen style beer, I cannot recommend this one.

Clear, pale orange color, adorned with a fine, creamy head. Aroma, strong and sweet, herbal, spicy, even. Quite a noseful, and far more forward than others of this style. In many ways, this one deviates from the norm. Flavor is rich and lively, alert and potent on the palate. Exceptionally malty, (not a peep from hops, the grain's in command this time), this is a Marzen that goes a bit beyond the usual, in terms of strength and flavor. Toasty, tasty, this is the autumnal treat in the Twin Towns!
