Commercial Description:
Step into the Scottish Highlands with this authentic Strong Scotch Ale. A lovely and deep garnet color is joined by the aroma of plums and toffee in this unique and special ale. Brewed with Maris Otter malted barley from Crisp Maltings, Ltd. in England, the rich and full-bodied feel of this beer brings out flavors of caramel and roasted chestnuts, which is balanced with a clean and crisp alcohol finish, and just the right amount of lingering hop bitterness. A real treat!

Poured a very dark brown with some red hues, not much head. Aroma has a muddy peat quality to it, with some pit fruity, apple-like aromas present as well. Taste has some brown sugar qualities, some peat, but not enough. Mild dry finish. Probably a bit too sweet overall, but a good offering.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 2/24/10

Aroma: Lots of dark malts, caramel, light fruit notes, some earth
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a slight red hue
Flavor: Flavor is burnt malts, some sweet caramel, some earthy bitterness
Palate: Medium bodied, average (plus) carbonation, somewhat oily, some booze
Overall Impression: A pretty nice Scotch Ale. Dominated mostly by the dark malt flavors. It makes for a very nice beer. I liked this one, pretty enjoyable, not overly complex, but a nice drinker.

In the bottle at the 2008 Crescent Moon Summer Beer Fest. Pours dark brown with a medium beige head. Caramel toffee aroma. The thick body has a nice caramel roasted flavor. Slightly nutty. Some chocolate notes. A big enough beer that i can detect the ethanol. I like it.

12 oz bottle: Pours an blackish/brown with red highlights and a large tan head that lasts forever. Aroma is malt heavy, bourbon, roasty, and a very light hop characteristic. Taste is malt forward, a spiced cookie note, caramel, sweet, and with a medium bitterness. Palate is very sweet on the tongue, very lightly carbonated, and an aftertaste of the bourbon and malt intermingled. Overall, It’s pretty good. Affordable around my parts, and I like scotch ale so...CHEERS!

Binny’s Willowbrook, IL $9.99 6-pack Nov. 2009. Medium brown redish hue, low carbonation, thin layer of head around glass that creeps down the side as you sip. Plum nose, low hop aroma, good body, nice sweetness but not tart, molasses drip, mild alcohol finish. Very good beer, I would buy again.

On draft at The Map Room. Pours a dark brown with a frothy light tan head. Aroma is creamy roast with light fruit accents. Flavor follows, roasty, coffee and cream, light fruit, finishes dry and a bit astringent. Creamy body, medium carbonation, but overall a bit thin feeling.
