A multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, Coal Creek Porter has a solid and loyal following among Big Time's customers. Impenetrably dark at first glance, Coal Creek shows rich red highlights when held to the light. Its blend of dark roasted malts combines with three other specialty malts and unmalted flaked barley to give Coal Creek a satisfying roasted flavor and smooth texture. It is heavily hopped in the finish with Yakima Centennial. Original gravity is approximately 15 degrees Plato (1.060 Specific Gravity), and alcohol content is 4.5% by weight.

[3/2/15] Draught at Big Time Brewery in Seattle. Dark brown. Aroma of butter, caramel, some roastiness and a vegetal note. Sweetish flavor with butter, roast, caramel and a chocolate note. Medium-bodied.

Draft at brewpub. Hazy cola brown, small foam. Soft chocolately roast malt. Nice creamy, tasty body. Lots of flavor all around, a little sweet in the finish. Not the most defined or sharpest beer around, but tasty porter.

On tap at Big Time, pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out notes of charcoal in typical coal porter fashion. Flavour is well-balanced, with dry cocoa powder and light roast. Decent porter, just nothing special.

Draft - Roast malts and butterscotch. Deep brown with a decent light brown head. Dark roast, toffee and a burnt bitter chocolate finish. Complex and pretty nice.

Draft at big time. How the hell I haven’t rated this yet? Used to be the only thing I ordered when I came here. Dark brown pour (opaque, but light brown around the edges) with creamy head, decent retention, good lacing. Nutty, roasty, some dark fruit. Chocolate and roast in balance. Taste is somewhat sweet with a balanced lightly bitter roasty finish. Medium- body, average carbonation. Oily texture. Overall: still my favorite big time beer.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. The aroma and flavor are full of chocolate and roasted malt. Fairly dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice porter.

On tap. Brownish black with thin, fading layer of beige foam. Very smokey, like the Makisupa stout. Roasted barley and blackened coffee, with a syrup sweetener. Mildly sweet, very dry. A little rough and rugged for a porter.

Black color, with creamy head. Not very Porter, but it has a nice aroma of roasted malts. There is some flavor of very dark chocolate, but covered by the high roastiness character; in the final, with the roasted malts and ashes, there is still some underlying chocolate.
More Stout than Porter, but good.

Bomber. Appearance is black with a solid layer of light brown foam. Mostly dark roasted malts and coffee in the aroma with a bit of cocoa powder. The flavor is similar with bittersweet chocolate and roast malt at the forefront in addition to some slight caramel sweetness and smokiness. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with adequate carbonation and dry, smoky finish. Relatively light and easy drinking for a Porter.
