Heavy brown bottle, too--great homebrewer saver bottle if those caps were easier to get and work with. Lots of special treatment for a brown ale. Between that and the special die-cut label, they really go some with the packaging. That’s cool and all, but at some point you have to wonder how big the lily-gilding factor has gotten with that.
Pours an opaque dark brown with a dense, creamy, attractive sandy head that’s unfortunately very short-lived. Roars up the glass like a mofo during the pour, though. You won’t get a full glass on the first try no matter how deft and clever you are. Nice swirls of foamy lace up the sides of the glass. Rich toasty, husky rye nose, very much a black russian rye bread thing happening aromatically here. Caramel, brown bread, and a fair bit of CO2 in the nose as well. Creamy medium body, lively carb--funny, with all the CO2 in the nose, you’d expect a prickly, tongue-scraping carbonation beast, but it never materializes. Brown bread, toasty rye, and a wee bit of piney hop on the mid-palate. Toasty rye and a bit of resin on the finish. I don’t really know what a traditional Danish brown rye ale is, but, then, that might just be something they knøw abøut døwn in Ørange Cøunty, and they simply haven’t tøld anyøne else, until nøw.

Smells of bread, toasted cereal grain, spicy rye. Very sticky and chewy texture. Heavy bodied. Oily with tons of bread flavor. Huge grain profile, deep and hearty. Aroma of rich grains, some spicy, grassy hop. Very well balanced. Perhaps the best beer TacoMac has ever poured for me. 19 mar 2010 Pwn3d (1201), Manhattan, New York, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 17, 2010 Pours a rich mahogany. Nose is spicy with notes of caramel and fruit and that crusty bread aroma that must come from their house yeast. Flavor is better than the nose with dense layers of caramel and a little cocoa with some light fruitiness finished off with fantastic lightly spicy rye flavor. This is a perfect marriage of two of my favorite things. Complex caramel malts and rye. A great beer. stobbe74 (999), Denmark
