The Double Bastard is a malty, meaty, beastly ale that is chalked full of earthy flavors and bark-like undertones. Potent with it’s wopping 10.5% alcohol level, Stone delivers a brutal liquid with the consistancy of milk and the burnt chocolate notes of a full bodied beer. Fantastic as a sipping ale. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 1, 2009 2008 release. Bomber served in a snifter. Deep ruby-brown, slightly hazy, small off-white head. Big sweet and heavy malt aroma. Barleywine-esque. Caramel, nuts, molasses, fruit cake, and pit fruit. Big flavor, little carbonation, heavy body. Malty and alcohol flavor. Rich finish that later shows bitterness. Nothing small about this bad boy.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber color with a rich cream colored head. Aroma is of banannas, caramel, floral and citrus. Taste is strong with the hops throughout, but carrying a sugary undertone throughout, with a hint of roasted malt in the long finish. Full bodied, with a thick texture. aaronbr (57), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2009 "Strong" ale is right! This one’s full-bodied, and sort of thick feeling. Definitely packs a punch on ABV, and has a nice blend of hops and powerful malts creeping in. Nutty brown in color and taste, but with a lingering bitterness that I kind of like. Pretty good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2009 Enjoyed from a 22oz bomber in a pub glass. The beer pours a medium to deep amber color, with a medium white to slightly off-white head. The nose initially brings a strong character of west coast hops, followed by moderate to heavy notes of crystal malts and perhaps some continental character malts. Finally, some alcohol is detectable in the aroma, but it stops short of being overpowering or unpleasant. The palate is large and full, again first showing a significant level of bitterness, especially given the beer’s gravity and the undoubtedly heavy malt bill. Flavors then transfer to toffee, fresh baked bread, and some depth added by the alcohol on the back end. Overall, the lightness of the beer was decieving, as it deftly hid its abv. Very nicely done, another very well-crafted beer from Stone. savnac (422), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 26, 2009 22 oz bottle of the 2009 batch poured into a snifter. Hazy deep amber with a sticky off white head that leaves lots of lacing. The aroma is lots of PacNW hops, pine resin, citrus and floral and lots of caramel malt. The flavor is sweet caramel malt with lots of bitterness that comes in slow and finishes strong. Medium to full body with average carbonation and a thick syrupy mouth feel. Finally got around to rating this epic beer, totally extreme and totally Stone. keepersj12 (798), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Nice pine and citrus aroma from a cloudy brown pour with a good off white head. Flavor is well balanced with the malt sweetness complimented by the hop bitterness. Finish is very dry and clean. Got to have more.
