| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2010 Pours a black(?) colour with a cream coloured head. Possibly. The bar was so damn dark, I’m not sure about the colour. BUT, what I can tell you about are the flavour and the aroma, and let’s face it, those are the more important elements. Aroma of coffee, oatmeal, chocolate, malt, and did I mention coffee. Weak flavour of coffee beans, chocolate, and malt. Aftertaste is a strange lingering flavour of oatmeal, and malts. In short, the aroma is better than the flavour.

Pours a pitch black with a creamy and frosty medium sized light brown head. Aroma of roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate and malts. Taste dominated by roasted coffee beans, with hints of dark chocolate, milk sugar and malts. Leaves a strong aftertaste of burnt coffee and charcoal. Dickinsonbeer (4082), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Nitro pour at Philly. Pours a deep dark black with a nice grayish mocha lasting head and killer lace. Aroma is pure fresh roasted coffee beans, espresso, nutty mocha java with great fresh chocolate, an earthy toastiness to the coffee and chocolate with hints of toast, and light roasted barley. Good rich coffee flavor- very fresh and not old spent coffee grounds, no harshness, or thinning mouthfeel or astringency- just pure bit roasted barley- big stout qualities with tons of fresh chocolate and coffee, with a great mid palate sweetness from the added lactose, and a smooth lasting fresh coffee finish. Awesome. egajdzis (3726), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 28, 2009 I loved the bitter chocolate in the aroma as well as in the taste. It pours very dark almost black with a nice creamy head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, brown sugar. The alcohol is also present. Taste is sweet with the chocolate and coffee very distinct. The alcohol is not as noticeable in the taste as in the aroma. Warms very nicely and is a great beer for those cold Philly Decembers. Pawola22 (922), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 11, 2009 On tap at Triumph in Philly, PA. Pours a cascading nitrogen infused body that yields a deep brown color and a finger-width, chocolate milk colored, extremely creamy head that never completely dissipates and leaves a heavy lacing after each sip. Aroma is very sweet milk sugar, oatmeal smooth rich chocolates, and a good amount of coffee. A slight chocolate covered cherry smell comes through more as this warms. This aroma definitely reminds me of a melted chocolate bar. The flavor is very sweet as well and literally reminds me of a spiked chocolate milk. Lots of rich and sweet milky chocolate up front before a touch of coffee comes in. Finishes rich as well with no real bitterness that lingers for a good amount of time. The aftertaste consists of just a touch of coffee, but again, its like I just took a swig of chocolate milk. Lighter body, very smooth, and milky. Overall, damn this is sweet. There is definitely an abundance of aroma and flavor. The milk sugar and rich chocolates leave me thinking of nestle quick and melted chocolate. I love those things, but can’t say I absolutely love this overly sweet dessert beer. Its not that its unenjoyable, but just needs a little more balance to even out the sweetness.
