Super smooth, fine, tan head, just a sliver. Very dark brown beer. Fruity, hoppy aroma, with pine and citrus. Slightly reminiscent of an American Barley Wine! But is has a Belgian flair, with caramel and chocolate and raisins too. Chewy and rich. Rich, creamy, strong, huge flavor. Caramel, chocolate, hop, alcohol, raisins. Wow. Fresh fruit in there too, plus hops that are almost American. Great balance and complexity. I love it. Seems to marry the Belgian Strong ale with the Barley Wine, and to do so wonderfully. Aroma of chocolate and burnt espresso. Flavor starts with cocoa and progresses to black coffee, with some light smoke. Nice. BierBauch (668), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Murky brown with some sediment. No head on this one. Aroma of cherries, dark malts and sugar. Medium bodied. Not as complex as my favorites (St. Bernardus, Rochefort). Overall a decent Belgian Ale just not the caliber of the afore mentioned. Frauditor (152), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA

Aroma is great tons of sweetness pitfruit, candy, brown sugar. Taste sweet all around. The brown sugar, pitfruit and light spice make it up. Pretty good I think it hides the 12% pretty well. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 25, 2009 Bottle from the Lake Saucer poured into a Malheur stem glass. This one is significantly darker than the 10. Dark brown; almost muddy pour that lightens towards the edges. Smaller head response than the 10 but holds just the same. Dark fruity malt aroma. Fairly fresh with some amount of sweet caramel. I also smell cologne but I’m not sure if that’s from the beer or from me as I smell so damn good tonight. Solid flavor by far. Taste has some dark Belgian fruit with dry earthy flavors. Feelings of subtle caramel and fading clay malts appear and subsequently fade into the swirling mist. Finish is almost neutral. A bit of heavy soil bitter remains but only in trace amounts. Would this have had a larger fruit profile it would rival the Bernardus. danielyabu (318), União da Vitória, Brazil
