Commercial Description:
A rich, creamy ale infused with a generous amount of coffee, the Porter was developed by Mountain Sun brewers weary of drinking Stout for breakfast. The result is an ale where coffee aromas mingle perfectly with a roasted barley, hop finish. A unique treat including as thick a head as you will ever get on a latte.

To the shock of no one, this porter poured dark brown with a bullwinklian tan head. The aroma, the flavor the whole enchilada is coffee (ok, java). In this eclectic brewpub, which reminds one of a hippy coffeehouse, a java porter is appropriate, and darn tasty.

Tap at brewpub, Boulder.
Pours a deep black with an aroma of slight coffee and roasted nuts. Flavor is jv coffee (?) with hints of roasted nut. Watery mouthfeel.

On draught at Vine Street Pub in Denver. The beer pours black with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing. Mocha aroma with notes of malt. Medium body with a pleasant roasted character and flavors of coffee, dark chocolate and hops. The finish is moderately bitter coffee with a hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap at the brewpub during GABF 2009. Pours a pitch black, murky color with tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasted with notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, coffee. Flavor is much of the same with coffee forward and other flavors in the background. Medium to full body with a pleasing coffee finish.

Draft @ Mountain Sun. Was slightly dissapointed they were out of the smoke - this was the replacement. Deep black, nice 1-inch tan head. Nose is subdued malts and breadiness, hints of coffee. Taste is a bomb of coffee that quickly mellows into chocolate, black licorice and a really, really silky feel. FInish is perfect bitterness from both coffee and hops. Really a well-done brew. Glad I got to try it.

On tap at Denver location. Black. Thick lasting creamy brown head and lacing. Steady carbonation. Very nice roasted malt and coffee scent. Smooth creamy coffee porter. Almost a hint of vanilla. Very good. Lots of coffee.

Draught at Mountain Sun, tasted on both CO2 and Nitro. A little brown in light but basically non-transparent black with small dark tan to brown head. Aroma is malty rich, biscuity, but most of all coffee. As in aroma, flavor is dominated by coffee also. Other notes are burnt malt and chocolate. Like coffee, finish is long, wet with a bitter finish. On Nitro it has less head and less bitter.

Tap at Vine Street - mmmm, this stuff is nice - jet black pour - dark tan had - nose of dark roast, fresh brewed coffee - rich flavor - a lot of coffee, but very little of the bitterness associated with it - some notes of chocolate and anise as well - creamy mouthfeel - very nicely balanced - roasty, semi-bitter finish, but with lingering creamy sweetness behind it - tasty!

On nitro tap at the brewpub on 7/17/09. Nice dark black with coffee and chocolate aroma. Nice little sweetness up front and then a great bitter mocha finish. Incredibly smooth (nitro) but also great on the regular tap as well. My rating may be biased as this is one of my favorite styles, but don’t let that take away from this beer, it really is fantastic. This is exactly what I wanted from this beer. I tasted 197 beers on this trip and this was one of the more memorable.
