The first of our single hop variety beers. We were the first brewery in the UK to use Citra. The beer proved so popular that we will be brewing it again. Permanent from January 2011.
A light refreshing beer with pungent grapefruit, lychee and gooseberry aromas leading to a dry, bitter finish.

Pours golden with a medium head. Aroma is strong citrus and some marijuana smoke. The taste is a little bit of sweet citrus at the tip with a mild bitterness at the finish. It’s ok but not as good as I’ve heard.

Tropical aroma with a full on citrus and mango taste, as well as a bitter finish. One for hopheads! -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Bottle. Nose is grapefruit, , malt, slight cereal, faint hint of butterscotch. Taste is pleasingly bitter grapefruit, hint of lime, ripe lychee, almost a rye note, biscuit malt, and a herbal note. This is much better than I was expecting, very nice indeed.

Grapefruit aroma but gooseberry taste. Pale yellow gold. Excellent of its type. If you are trying to draw a lager drinker into real ale this works.

Pours a golden yellow with initially foamy thick which head which settles down and leaves a lingering layer throughout. Aroma of graperuit, straw, lychee, fresh grass, mild biscuit malt and a note of herbal hop. Taste is wonderfully balanced mixture of sweet and dry bitter lingering on to the finish. Good tasting stuff with quite an oily mouth feel. A really nice beer and much better than I was expecting! Will definitely buy again

500ml Bottle from Bargain Booze, New Mills, Derbyshire. As the first British beer to use Citra hops I imagine this was pretty groundbreaking six years ago. But the game’s moved on a fair bit since then and I’ve drank a lot of beers like it. That said, it’s still very enjoyable. Pours golden with frothy but quickly diminishing white head. Aroma is strong and fruity, lychees and grapefruit. Fruitiness is also very present in the flavour - understandable for single hopped citra - before a pleasantly dry finish. Only complaint is a certain, tricky to pin down, but slightly jarring skunkiness that comes through on the palate in the finish.
