COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation III was made with Black Albert that aged for 3 months on Paul Melia’s (Mes) favorite Whisky, the "Caol Ila’s Distillers Version 1995".

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2023 A 330ml bottle, bottled on 14th January 2021, with a best before date of +5 years, poured into a snifter glass. It was black in colour with a thin tanned head that dissipated to a ring around the glass while leaving some spotty lacing. Aromas of light roast, chocolate, black coffee, wood, whisky, with notes of dried dark fruit, raisin, fig, and maybe just a splash of peat. Tastes light to moderate sweet malty, whisky, dried dark fruit, raisin, prunes, light roast, chocolate, coffee, with some light bitterness on the backend. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, an enjoyable sipper with balanced aromas and flavours, but for being aged 2 years in peated whisky barrels, there is a distinct lack of any peat.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2023 30 July 2023. Bottle from Beers@Moviefun. Vintage 2018. Bottled: 31/3/2021. Hazy black, small, frothy beige head. Aroma of cigar tobacco, black olive, prune, raisin, old fondant, soy, fried mushroom, whisky, vague iodine. Taste has sweetish prune & raisin, sourish blackberry wrapped in a malt body of fondant & toast; paired with umami soy & black olive, bit medicinal. Earthy & (black-)peppery hoppy finish, lingering bitter tobacco, espresso & toast; the warming whisky alcohol is more 'purely' medicinal than actually peated. Medium to full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Dry, dark and earthy; this is a more restrained Black Damnation example, less pronounced in the chosen barrel too.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2023 Copenhagen 14/4 2023. 33 cl bottle from Kvickly, Østergade, Middelfart. A ominous Skull surrounded green ornaments in Struises usual Black Damnation design. Pours opaque dark brown with a mid-sized beige head. Stable. Settles as a thin but unbroken layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing. Aroma is medium intense with a strong sweet potent odor of dark fruit and brown sugar. Whisky and wood. Light touch of smoky peat. Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, slightly viscous, soft, creamy, almost flat texture. Flavor is fairly intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly more moderate sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a boozy undertone. Finish is a bit dry. Not exactly a mess. But another potent chapter in the Black Damnation series.

sjorsvdg (1179) - NETHERLANDS - JAN 22, 2023
UPDATED: JAN 22, 2023 Mooie vatgelagerde stout. Ietwat zure ondertoon van het eikenhout, volle body met elementen van chocolade, koffie, drank, wat turf. Het whiskyvat is niet prominent in het palet aanwezig, eerder subtiel.

Idiosynkrasie (16058) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 1, 2023
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2023 330ml bottle. Jet black colour with minimally late awakening, small, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, dark beige to tan head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty, slightly caramel malty, slightly yeasty fruity aroma, notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, dark caramel, blueberry, whiffs of salmiac, underlying weak hints of cherry, plum; hints of BA come in late and add a touch of Bourbon, peat. Taste is sweet-ish, caramel malty, chocolately and roasty, dark malty, yeasty fruity, slightly alcoholic, notes of dried fruit, alcohol soaked dried fruit, dark berries, plum, cherry, dark chocolate, dark caramel, some toffee; cautious BA overtones with a minimally peaty touch. Creamy to viscous texture, smooth, soft and silky palate, fine, soft carbonation. Rich and complex, evolving, very nice, alcohol supported fruity flavours; surprisingly (but only seemingly) light - very good!

KevinReddirt (1807) - Midland, Texas, USA - DEC 3, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 3, 2022 A 33 cl bottle, 2018 vintage according to the label. And it also unequivocally calls itself Black Mess. Just to pass along. Thanks to one of my European sellers, otherwise I'd never see a bottle like this. Lift the cap and tilt inside of a domestic brewery globe glass. Black as advertised with a tawny brown skim of foam that is lost fairly quickly. The nose is licorice, chocolate and dark fruit. The drink is all right but not top level. Overwhelmed by the ash, some booziness, caramel, ripe prunes, chocolate malt and wood. I like others from the brewery more.

lasage (691) - DENMARK - DEC 2, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2022 Sort øl, en lille smule beige skum, kun tynd ring. Aroma er mørk malt, røg, smagen det samme, ret godt, fin balance, fyldig, lidt syrlig, røget, ristet, ikke tydelig præg a Belgien. God røget øl…

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2022 330ml bottle from GBBF 2022. Near black. Aroma is loaded with peated malt, fudge, oak, vanilla and smoke. Really smooth and lovely and malty. Loads of complex grainy flavours with a nice smoky finish. Excellent.
