COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A standard American stout by style, however aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for 90 days. This full bodied stout presents with a black opaque appearance due to the heavy doses of dark malts and roasted barley. A blend of the dark grains, a portion of smoked malt, and a generous amount of pale malt lends to a filling and warming beer with notes of bourbon, caramel, coffee, toffee and smoke. With the complement of conditioning on a Woodford Reserve Barrel for 3 months the stout finishes with a deliciously balanced melding of barrel aged character and the smooth silky flavor of a well made stout.

I believe this is the right beer - seems hard to get the exact right bottle, with so many similar named beers by the same brewery! Deep pitch black coloured body with a dense fast-dying tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, milk, alcohol, bourbon, vanilla (strong), glue/paste, a touch of caramel and some nice sweetness. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep chewy mouthful of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate (lightish), raisins, sugar, bourbon, vanilla and cookies - crazy sweet and pretty potent. Aftertaste is strong, but very subtle and hides with the good balance of sweetness and alcohol without any harsh bittering flavours at all. Overall, a very well balanced, complex and well-executed beer especially for the style. You could drink a lot of these without knowing its potency or flavour profile, but you’d probably be showing it after 2 or 3! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 14-July-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 28-July-2010.

bba growler from dakine on 3/21/2010. dark reddish black with a soft creamy tan head. the smell of bourbon rules the aroma! underneath are barrel char, smoky grain, chocolate, roast, caramel and spice. the stout flavors kinda lack while sweet chocolate and bourbon reign... there’s loads of medicinal barrel notes, spice, sweet smoke, brown sugar and floral qualities in it as well playing a secondary role. the is a touch of sourness on the finish which tries to balance everything out but the sweetness and medium-full body and slick texture fight back. a little too sweet but otherwise this is great. 8/4/8/4/16/4.0

Growler shared by Daknole at Hellbilly’s Shootout in Sosco Tasting. Thanks Dak! Pours black with a small tan head. The nose is smoke, roasted malt and light chocolate. The taste is pretty much the same as the nose with some ash mixed in. Finish is on the bitter side. Good stuff.

Appearance: Dark brown, near black body with a thinnish, though lasting, ecru head. Smell: Deep roastiness in the nose with a staunch, concentrated coffee scent and bold notes of chocolate morsels, molasses, dark fruits, and top-shelf bourbon. Taste: Sweet start of coffee and semi-sweet chocolate chunks and vanilla and licorice. Moderate smokiness throughout. Dark fruitiness. Some fire-charred marshmallows. Splash of bourbon. A lone glob of molasses. Minimal bitterness. Sweetish, roasty, bourbon-glazed finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Drinkability: Very good, very enjoyable. Hearty stout character, a soothing bourbon presence, and ample smoked malt. More, please!

Bottle shared by daknole - Pours a dark brown color with a small light tan head. Aroma is a nice mix of roasted malt, smoke, oak/bourbon, and coffee. No one element over powers the other. Flavor is much of the same. Medium to full body. A really nice beer. Thanks Dak.
