Malty and sweetish at the start, softly carbonated, doughy aroma. Finishes with minimal hops.

A pick up from a recent run to Kentucky/Indiana I grabbed several different releases from Oaken Barrel. I hope they are all as well thought out as this amber. It blew away my expectations in almost every way and it would be very tempting to buy a sixer if I were ever back in the area. Don’t pass on it for being "just another light beer".

Aroma / Appearance - The short lived beige head collapses into a carbonated blood red body. Vibrant orange edges glow brightly in the sunlight. The nose is a mix of stale sawdust and chocolate dipped cherry bites. The oaky hops give this a nice presence without overwhelming the eager nose.

Flavor / Palate - Wood chips, melted cheap waxy chocolate, and noble hops ground this as a solid sessionable beer. The hops definitely make themselves known but do not dominate. I could easily have finished two or three of these while kicking back. Oaken Barrel seems to be a brewery worth keeping an eye on.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a Sam Adams BL glass, the beer pours a red/amber color with a half inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both decent. It smells mostly like caramel malt, along with some pine hops and a nutty aroma. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like caramel malt, piney hops and a bit of a fruity taste. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is good, it’s easy to drink and enjoyable. It wouldn’t be hard to drink a few of these at a time. I think this is a good overall brew, I’d pick it up again in the future. It’s definitely worth a try if you come across it.

draft, amber, medium head. Some hops, malty and sweet, not that impressive but has some character.

Draft from Scotty’s Brewhouse in downtown Indianapolis. Pours amber with small cream colored head. Light nose- malt, hops, and a sweetness I couldn’t place. Flavor was malty with a dash of hops and fruit with a little bite. Light-medium body with dry, slightly bitter finish.

Had at a random bar near the hotel at my brother’s wedding in Indianapolis. Not bad, but nothing special.

From StFun via trade. The pour was amber. The head was off-white, borderline creamy and the lacing was thin rings that held on for dear life. The aroma was malt, pepper, ashtray and slightly metallic. The flavor was peppery and malty with some light citrus. Thin in body and super dry.
