As great as American beer culture is, there’s something magical about a beer like this. Wholly old world malt bill with a deft hop balance that simply is not in the American brewmaster’s sights, or wheelhouse. This balanced floral delicate golden ale could be a house beer in any medieval shire. When a beer takes you on a journey, you know it’s something special. This one does just that.

Pours a hazy golden color with a large frothy white head. Some floating sediment. Aroma of pale malts, stone fruits and grassy hops. The taste is pale malts, some toastiness, caramel, stone fruits, raisins and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Golden, white frothy head, decent head retention, and mild lacing. Mild floral, biscuit and citrus aroma. Medium bodied, mild caramel & biscuit malt, citrus and lemon notes. Great balance, refreshing, nice dry notes, mild and bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Clear medium amber, sudsy white head, streaks of lace. Looks appealing. Aroma of citrus and hops. Taste is light malt with biscuit and grass that turns to citrus hop on the swallow, with hops prevalent through a medium finish. There should be more beers like this: enough flavor to be enjoyable, not enough alcohol to get loaded on a long night. It does what it means to do, is balanced, and is a pleasure to drink.

Aroma is citrus, fruit and noticeable hop resin. The flavor is fruit, malts/biscuit malts, mild hop resin, citrus and a tart/smooth/lightly bitter finish. I’ve never really had a really good, hoppy UK golden ale, either they’ve been old or not that good to begin with; this was great, makes me wish there were more easily available in the US.

(Bottle) Very pale yellow beer with a decent frothy head. Light, fruity aroma. Flavour is light and fruity as well with a bit of sharp hop thrown in as well. Slightly bitter finish but it’s somewhat short-lived.

Honey gold with a soapy, thin white head. Very light fruit, grain aroma. Taste is the same, creamy with a mild bitter. Extremely light, but very nice.

Pours amber bit like a decent lager. Aroma of orange, marmalade, hay, light spice. Taste is well balanced with a slight tart, spiced orange finish due to the citrus. Easy to drink with gentle carbonation and nice mouthfeel. Orange becomes more prevelant as you get down the glass. A real bargain at only £1 for a 500ml bottle in Morrisons at the moment.
