A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. It's triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Orange pour from draft. Orange, dark, white head. Malty and biscuit taste. Citrus. Pretty good

Light aroma, a bit grassy with a hint of lemon and some sweet syrup on the tail end. An opaque amber with a thin white head. It’s far more bubbly then I expected considering its age. There’s not much there, again a bit of lemon, maybe a hint of coriander and some hops. A bit of spice and fruit. It doesn’t taste like it has been ruined but certainly tastes old.

From notes. Tasted on 12/12/12 from a capped 22oz bottle with Curtis, and the Nashville crew. Pours murky burnt orange with no head, but just a few thin bubbles. The nose is showing some oxidation, tons of orange peel and over-ripe apricot, some bread malt and spicy yeast. The flavor is all about the bitter orange peel and juicy apricot, with some malt and yeast, and some oxidation setting in. The body is medium with light carbonation and a long malty caramel, apricot, and lightly bitter orange peel finish.

Had it in January 2012. Poured thick and cloudy. Lots of sediment. Mostly flat but that’s to be expected. Sweet and sticky like any other beer of this style. Held up well.

FROM NOTES: July 3, ’12 Poured from a 22 ounce bomber into a Stone pint glass. Have a 2nd bottle cellared. A: Lemon and wheat. Kind of piney with grassy hops. Very earthy. A: Pours a hazy, golden yellow with a small layer of white head. T: Pine and grass notes with lemon citrus flavors as well. Wheat. Light coriander and spice. Slight alcohol burn. P: Creamy and smooth. Medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends dry and weedy. O: Somewhat drinkable, I’m very excited to see how it tastes in December ’12. Glad I have one cellared, but wouldn’t seek it out at the going rates

Bottle. From notes. A very generous BA person shared this with me the other day. Big thanks to you sir! Spicy yeast with a little lemon. Awesome, glad I finally got to try this.

Yeasty Belgian with spices all blended into a dark beer somewhere between a porter and a stout...great finish...really good, I had with a friend with a porkloin dinner and it was sublime!!!

Finally got to try it! once from a bottle that was infected and on draft at the 2013 Stone winter Storm. Nice citrusy notes with a faint Belgian yeast kick. Held up better than I thought it would.

So we got it. Thanks to Sean9689 for doing the legwork and securing the bottle. Opened up on 02.02.13. The anniversary of the first Vertical Epic. 22 oz. bottle served in a CCB snifter. A: Pours a semi clear orange color with solid white head forming on the pour. Surprised by the amount of carbonation in this guy. S: Pretty fruit still, some light oxidation with a little bit of prunes. Seems like it oxidized in a non-poor way. We’ll see what the taste entails. T: Definitely oxidized in a sherry-like way. Deep dark dark fruits, some figs and prunes with a stale oat flavor to it. The best way to describe it is it just tasted "old". Mild paper from the oxidation as well, but surprised at how this has held up . M: Medium to light bodied with a pretty solid and ample carbonation level. Pretty easy drinking. O: As mentioned before this beer just tasted old, but the oxidation took a sherry like approach to it which lessened the blow of the usual cardboard flavors that a beer of this age would usually pick up. For being a 7.5% witbier, it surprised everyone at the tasting. Serving type: bottle

A combination of my favorite (black IPA) and least favorite (Belgian) styles. As it turns out it lands right in the middle for me. Very flavorful, and I get why people would love it, but not quite to my liking ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
