02 bottle, sampled at Woodshop Quad. Pours a hazy brownish-amber with a small off-white head. Big sweet-sharp aroma, of malt, pine, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Taste is sweet, with malt, pine, grass, brown sugar, dates, bourbon. Lingering sweetness. Very drinkable and tasty.

Pours ruddy brown with a thin cream colored head. The nose has a bit of oxidation, but still smooth of bourbon and caramel like malt. Same in the flavor with a sweet bourbon influence and creamy mouthfeel.

12oz bottle from 2002 if the 02 on the cap meant that. Bottle at Woodshop quad. Pours reddish brown with tan ring. Nose is sweet and rich and certainly bourbony. Taste is sweet and rich, and nice and smooth, bourbon.

Poured a murky brown color with a huge and very long lasting tan head. Aroma first hit me with bourbon and then I thought I picked up some leathery/barnyrd funk. Hmmm I didn’t expect this so I put it down to warm up and came to check some ratings. I guess, with being lazy and not checking more than one page I miust have an infected (2003 i think) bottle. Since I love the smell of gueze and lambic this smells great. But what is this beer? Flavor starts tart then comes some bourbon and finishes semi-dry and woody. Tastes good smells great but is this what it is supposed to be? The warmer it gets the more the bourbon trys to take over but the leather is still there.

2002 Bottle: WOW! This beer is loaded with carbonation (you can feel it fizz on your tongue) and has a huge head. No, it has a gigantic, off-white, fantastic frothy head! It has a light and thin feel with a slightly woody finish. I could definitely pick up the sweetness from the bourbon barrels providing an easy aftertaste. This is one of those beers where the complexion and balance are so rich that neither the malts or the hops stand out over the other. I also sensed hints of licorice. I guess what I am trying to say is that, even though it isn’t my favorite brew - it is as "smooth as butta!" Thanks Indiana_Red for sharing this tasty little friend.

2003 Bottle: Beer pours medium mahogeny color with an almost completely dissipating beige colored head. Can’t tell from the aroma, but this beer has completely gone sour in the bottle. Sour and gueze like. Must take off major points as I am sure this beer was not inteded to be sour. Hello drain pipe.

(Bottle) 2003 vintage. Pours a smooth, creamy, shaving-cream like head that quickly dissipates to a viscous lacing at the edge of the glass. The body is a cloudy brown oil. The nose is not that of an American Strong - its aroma is that of compost, grass clippings, a mild gueuze and a lactic malt. I hope this is the bourbon barrel altering the odour but I doubt it. The flavour is slightly sour, though the malt is still apparent? I am afraid that this beer does not age well. So sad... others seemed very happy with this beer.

Nicely done... I haven’t liked most of their other offerings, but this one is quite nice. I’m shocked at the discrepencies of ratings on this site. This is solid, and even if you don’t care for it, I can’t imagine giving it less than a 3 for the style. So yeah, a nice Strong Ale with a touch of bourbon. Not the best beer out there, but solid none the less.
