COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a big and full bodied Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels with lots of roasted malts, but very balanced with heavy hops. Brewed with a top secret root, this beer has an amazingly complex flavor that you must wait for.

2014. Thanks, ineedbeer. The beer is wall to wall black with a small light brown head. The bubbles fade to a ring after a couple minutes. The aroma is silky chocolate milk. Big vanilla. Plenty of caramel in the background. Mild oak. Medium bourbon, sweet and rich. Some booze. The taste is sweet with milk chocolate and vanilla. Mild roast. Creamy full flavor. Medium to moderate bitterness in the finish. Smooth mouthfeel. Very easy to drink for a big barrel-aged stout. Tasty stuff.

Taster at he 2015 Michigan Brewers Guild Annual Winter Beer Festival. Black with medium to large light brown head, nose is bourbon, chocolate, coffee, some roasted malt. Oily full body, a tad lighter than I remember from regular pt5. Just a hint of booze on the finish with more dark chocolate. Very good.

Poor’s a dark black. Aroma of bourbon, and chocolate. Bourbon taste is pleasant but not overbearing. Overall a great beer. 2014 bottle.

2012 bottle. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was basically a pure jet black color with barely any head and left some splotches of light lacing. The smell was mainly sweet chocolate with a light roast. Light coffee surrounded a gentle woodiness. Bourbon never really reared it’s head. The taste was basically the same leading into a mostly roasty quality of aftertaste and a semi - dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation was barely there but I’m not worried since it was a 2012 bottle. Overall, I say for the year of the bottle everything was pretty smoothed out and balanced with lack of bourbon. I bet if I would have had it fresher I would have noticed the bourbon. Still, a mostly good beer.

Awesome bottle share at RBWG! Bourbon barreling takes this beer to another level. Almost jet black. Dried fruit, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, chocolate, coffee, cherry. Rich and complex all the way. One of the highlights of many great beers.

Pours dark with a dissipating foam head that hugs and laces my glass. The aroma is of sweet bourbon, muted earthy hop scents, rich dark roasted malts, buttery carmel, vanilla, and minor oak notes. In tasting I picked up on some licorice, vanilla, chocolate, toffee, sweet bourbon, dark fruits, and a pleasant malty backbone. The finish is great. It blended bourbon, malts, bitter chocolate and hop notes, roasted dark malts, sweet caramel, and a subtle acidic fruit taste. Overall this was a very drinkable beverage. This is a must try for any fan of barrel aged stouts.

Another great gift and proof that I am blessed. Vintage 2014 (2 months old). Viscous black pour with a quickly rising fizzy mocha head that settles down fairly quickly and leaves a couple spots of lace that fall down the alcohol film on the glass back into the remaining ring of foam. Nose involves rich decadent dark chocolate soaked in smooth vanilla toffee laden bourbon. Notes of black roast coffee, alcohol vapors, marshmallow, charred wood, some raisin and plum, a little smoke and leather. Quite sweet, somewhat bitter by comparison. Big bodied, rich and velvet-like, soft and round, viscous toward syrupy, coating, finishing very long with smoke, wood, dark chocolate bitterness, and bourbon. World class.

Nice thick appearance with a chocolate head. Great aromas with a long lasting finish. Great for long cold winter nights
