Talk about hitting the spot! Now I just have to find it here in NC. This is a substantial beer, Thin but persistent head. Great malty flavor with stong american hop balance. Lots of caramel in the finish. No off flavors noted. lovemyipas (450), sw burbs, Illinois, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 10, 2010 2007: This is a deep and dark red colored ale. Huge, puffy head. No haze, but deep and murky. Big spiderweb of lace.
Magnificently balanced smell. Has a deep, dark ale smell. Deep, excellent oaky smell with bitter hops underneath. Wonderful strong ale smell. Very woody, heavy alcohol smell..
Excellent oak-barrelled flavor. Very alcohol-ish, strong. Woody and powerful. Very strong, but outstanding. A very special strong ale.
Thick yet also thirst-quenching. A strong, "wet ale." Creamy and good. So drinkable for such a strong ale. Oaky, alcohol-y, strong, rich. oOJUXEOo (80), Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2010 Bottle. Pours a very nice reddish hue. Aroma is slightly hoppy. Malt is still noticeable. Balanced nicely actually. Sweet. Taste is the same. Very good with dinner. JW32Hoops (34), San Diego, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 7, 2010 Bomber from my main man Eddie at Express Liquor in PB. Pours a deep, dark red...somewhere between Guiness and Hop Head Red. One finger cappucino head which dissipates, leaving behind some significant lacing. This is one helluva good looking beer. This beer’s reputation precedes it, but with good reason. Nose is hops and some subtle coffee and caramel notes. Palate is a right hook to the kisser of sweet, delicious hops with an even sweeter malt backbone. Some toffee notes round out this aggressive yet totally enjoyable strong ale. Yellow, fizzy beer is for wusses indeed. I want another. strongpieman (76), Mount Airy, Maryland, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 7, 2010 Excellent all around ale. Significant hops aroma. Deep amber color, clear, minimal head. Some bitterness, medium body, soft carbonation, clean finish. Not overpowering in any way, just a solid go-to beer.
