(Bottle, Huxleys, Heathrow Airport, London, 29 Nov 2009) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with orange and grainy malt. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange, apricots and dusty hops in the finish. Below medium body, mainly dry. Well balanced and tasty, but lacking the complexity and earthy bitterness of the cask version.

Good, solid real ale and you can’t say fairer than that with a splendid taste

Bottle from Majestic wines (89p a 500ml) at my brother’s. Amber/gold with a white head. Needs to be served cold as a fridge beer. When it warms up the shortcomings of Well’s industrial scale brewing spoil the refreshment.

Golden with white head. Grass and sweaty changing room type smell, although not too unpleasant. Taste is a little metallic unfortunately. Disappointing seeing as I really enjoyed some of their other beers

Bottle. Pours amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, caramel and light fruity hop notes. The flavour is the same and has a pronounced metallic kick in the flavour too. Not quite there overall and I wouldn’t go back for another one considering the high quality of other bitters available.

Bottle conditioned at 4.5% abv. Clear gold, decent white head with some lacing. Medium body, prickly carbonation, mouthfeel, some malty sweetness and fruity hop flavours. Pleasant if unexciting bitter.

Very light, but decent flavour for such a low ABV. You could drink this all day, but it would get a bit samey. Light fruity malt with a light hop finish

Bottle. Golden brown with an off white foam. Aromas are light weetabix malts with grapefruit. Quite dusty with some woody notes and hints of cardboard. Flavours are biscuit and weetabix malts with some nuttiness. Dry and hoppy with grapefruit bitterness on the finish. OK.
