Commercial Description:
A skillful marriage of our famous porter and our award-winning lager, Black & Tan is a sensational introduction to the world of rich, full-flavored brews. Chocolate and Caramel 60 Malts contribute to it's velvety, roasty finish, enhanced by hopping with Tettnang, Mt. Hood, Cascade, and Galena.

Lion Brewery has plastic stickers for its Pocono labels. Great idea! It’s a gives the bottle a nice, glossy look. The thin style of the black & tan brewed to appeal to macro drinkers is not such a great idea. It has roasted malts to peak a beer geek’s interest, but its weak finish and thin body makes it a so-so recipe.

Well it is black in color but it is a watery looking black. Smell slight of toffee and coffee but it smell watered down. The taste the same, I hope I got a bad batch because it has potential but seems watered down.

Just not the porter - bought this when the Porter was no longer around. Off, funky taste with a weakish bitter finish. A bit yeastier than expected. Sweeter than their porter with added caramel? Something not quite right here....

Bottle sampled. Pours light brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, roast, and coffee. The flavor is thin, coffee, roast, slightly sweet caramel, and mild bitterness.

13.12.06 12oz bottle from the insistently generous beastiefan2k. Mostly flat looking with small but fleeting tan head. Aroma is rich, rummy, and luscious full to the brim of warm prune, fig, fruitcake, brandy, and a bit oxidized. Body is a bit thin but the flavors are in keeping with the aromas with added notes of brown sugar and plum but also more oxidation (the good kind). Sweet coffee flavors including a very mild bite at the end helps close out the brew. This was a nice find.

Jez, what happened to this beer. I was expecting some crap but I got some heavenly aromas of something not resembling a black and tan. This may be a pretty old bottle but I see no dating. Pours very dark brown with no head and just some lacing ringing around. Aroma is strong - and I would say more like an English Strong. Very malty, prune raison fruitiness, some vanilla. Taste is more subdued version with that fruitiness and vanilla coming in the end. Low bitterness, mouthfeel is smoother b/c of lower carbonation.

12oz bottle. Dark and opaque with a slight ring of white head. Great complex malt aromas. Coffee, vanilla, prunes, maple, honey mead, port, raisins. Fantastic. Now for the flavor...Medium and lively. Nice vanilla flavor. This is not bad at all! It had a Jeckyl/Hyde duality thing going on. Rich smooth malts with flavors of coffee and plums, caramel and sherry. The hops come out and finish smooth with a bitter zip. Hops are piney and dry. Lively and bitter. Slight burn. After not expecting much at all, this totally impressed me!
