Commercial Description:
This smooth, creamy stout and a crackling fireplace are the perfect answer to a wintry evening in Wisconsin. The rich coffee flavor compliments the "warm, fuzzy feeling" you get from the abundant alcohol. Seasonal Nov. - April.

Pours a deep, deep brown that borders on black with a pretty good sized tan head. Aroma is chock full o’nuts and sweet, chocolatey malts with a roasted feel overall...and roasted to the point of being slightly burnt with a hint of smoke. Flavor is very roasty, and again, to the point of being burnt with an ashy taste to it that was somewhat disappointing. Behind the ash there is a fair deal of roasted coffee and nuts and is all complimented by sweet malt flavors. Body is light for an impy stout, but that is sort of refreshing. Overall smooth on the palate, as the name would suggest. Good beer, but not one I would actively seek out again.

Pours a deep black with fairly thin tan head. Some lacing noted. Aroma is nice, licorice and some alcohol. Flavor is roasted malt and some residual sweetness. Kind of muttled flavor. A little busy. But nice.

Pours a deep dark brown colour with a full beige head. Decent lacing, excellent retention with noticeable nutty character and strong roasted malt aroma. Dark colombian roast coffee, caramel and a little bourbon perhaps in the flavor. All around very smooth, yet rich and satisfying brew.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of SS winter ’07. Satin Solstice pours dark brown with a medium sized dense tan head with good retention. The aroma is moderately sweet with a tartness that shows up as well. There is also quite a bit of roasted malts, chocolate, and dark fruit and berries. The flavor is roasted malt, light coffee, dark chocolate, and a slight tang. The beer smooths out as it warms (as the name implies). Medium bodied and creamy smooth.

(Bottle thanks to hopscotch) Pours dark brown to black with a small light brown head. The aroma is of medium roasted malt with tones of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, nuts/hazelnuts, violet and milk alongside a light burned/smoky/apple tobacco/ash/liquorice touch. Just a whisper of prunes and nutmeg is also notable. The flavour is light acidic roasted with tones of bitter cocoa powder and cold coffee. The undertones are smoked and burned with tobacco ash, smoke and sal ammoniac. Just a touch of dark fruits/prunes. Light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter and light to medium vinous acidic. The mouthfeel is soft at first with a light to medium tart/dry ending. Medium-full bodied.

Pours a dark, dark brown with a little light passing through the edges showing mahogany hues. The head is small, off-white and short-lived, retreating to a collar quickly, leaving no lacing. The smell comes alive as it warms with big roasted malt and coffee aromas with a hint of licorice and dark fruits. For me, the taste failed to deliver of the promise of the nose. It’s fairly one-dimensional with roasted malts and coffee bitterness dominating throughout and leaving a slightly acidic finish. The mouthfeel was medium bodied but seemed a little thin for the style. The acidic bitterness in the finish limits the drinkability a little bit. It’s not quite up to imperial stout standards for me.

Pours a deep amber black with a small off white head. Aroma is sweet fruit, toffee, almonds and chocolate. Flavor is more fruit and less nutty chocolate although it does remind me of some of the selections in the Russell Stover sampler. Medium bodied creamy texture. Finishes long and bitter with a slight alcohol burn.

Black bubbly pour with a decent creamy tan head. Smell is big soy sauce and nutmeg and some vanilla. Flavor is sweet, tart and not right. There is something seemingly wrong with this one. Bad bubbly palate that has that cheek clenching aspect to it.
