3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Looks like a dunkel, tastes like a marzen. See through dark brown with initial foamy beige head. Sweet malt aroma with a hint of roast grains. More sweet malt taste, syrupy consistency, sweet finish. Lovely!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a deep copper color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a fair level of retention, fading to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of caramel sweetness as well as a decent sum of a roasted malt smell. Along with these aromas comes some smells of a light caramel and dark fruit aroma as well as a moderate showing of cinnamon and nutmeg spice.
Taste – The taste begins with a quite roasted and spiced flavor with nutmeg and cinnamon present from the start. There is some caramel sweetness as well as a bit of a toffee and darker fruit flavor of raisin and plum. These sweeter flavors fade at the expense of some more roasted malt and bready flavors. The spice also really kicks it up a notch with a rather strong surge of both the cinnamon and nutmeg and an appearance of some allspice. In the end, a rather spiced and roasty taste is left on the tongue; which is actually very nice overall.
Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. The moderateness of the carbonation and body are nice for the blend of quite roasted and more spiced flavors of the brew and made for a flavorful, but still easy drinking feel.
Overall – This is a rather enjoyable Oktoberfest overall, that is on the more roasted malt and spiced side but is without much of the sweeter caramel, molasses, and dark fruit flavors associated with most oktoberfests. A nice brew overall and one to try if you get the chance.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from New Seasons.
A: Clouded brown, creme colored head which turns from foam to whisp. Some lacing.
N: Cocoa, biscuit, peas, bread, hay, touch of toffee, a bit vegetal, walnuts, and a hint of smoke.
T: A strange combination of sweet and bitter. It doesn’t seem like that’s the case, though. More of that almond profile.
M: Chalky, medium bodied, dense carbonation.
O: Not a great Oktoberfest. Perhaps it’s the yeast being used here, but it’s neither clean nor pleasingly bready.

dark brown color. A touch sour. Ok, but not great, shows OK malt character, but very undistinguished.

Couleur ambré avec un petit col beige. L’arôme du malt et cereals. Le goût est du malt, cereals et levure. C’est un très peu sucré.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Growler filled about a week ago. Kept cool.
A: Dark brown with a little bit of head formation, a central cap of the peanut foam is present. Red hue where light shines through. No lace.
S: sweet cherries, wood, rye bread, sweet yeast (I’ve had enough Bayern to smell a distinct sweetness from it). It’s pleasant.
T: Nutty, bland and watery. Kinda has an original corn nuts flavor.
M: Thin with pretty substantial carbonation. Semi dry finish.
O: Decent beer, but not particularly taking my fancy.
Serving type: growler

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, nuts, earth and a good dose of light yeastie and bready notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and nutty flavours with a good balance of light hops and a lot of sugars. Aftertaste shows some earthy malts, a bit of peat and caramel with some toffee and a hint of yeast. Overall, a good marzen with more of a kick from yeast and sugars than anything else. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Zupan’s in Portland, Oregon (Belmont Location) a few hours ago on 07-December-2013 for US$1.99 sampled in my hotel room a few hours later on 07-December-2013 here in Portland.

Very dark. Aroma of campfire smoke. Initial sip is full with candy malt sweetness. Middle has moderate alcohol mixed with caramel. Finishes tingling on the tongue with a nice bready malt taste and slight hop bitterness. Definitely an American marzen, prob why I like it so much. Screw Munich, I’ll take Montana!

Pours is a dark amber color with not much head. Some lacing. Nose is bready, sweet caramel malts, very slight grassy hop scent. Taste is same as nose with very slight chocolate taste and grassy hop bitter finish. Not bad but definitely room for improvement.
