Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

22oz bottle-pours a rich to rocky off white head that laces and gold color. Aroma is sweet lemon zest-citrus (Amarillo), pine hops-bite (also cascade?), secondary/faint medium malt-caramel. Taste is solid, sessionable, just off from the great aroma, sweet lemon zest-citrus (Amarillo), pine hops-some bite (also cascade?), secondary medium malt-caramel.. Further in the taste gets closer to the aroma and the bite strengthens a bit. Nice American IPA. OK/mild carbonation.

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip out west. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy vibrant orange color with a huge yellow-white head that lingered. The aroma was sweet pine, grapefruit and orange. The flavor was strong sweet grapefruit, pine and orange with notes of nut and pepper underneath. The finish was long with fruity hops. Fairly full bodied. Well done.

Bottle. A hazy dark golden beer with a huge, creamy, lacing, fully lasting beige head. The aroma is strong with an average maltiness. Hugely hoppy. There are notes of grapefruit, pine needles, resin, tropical fruits, with monor notes of caramel and biscuits. The flavour is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Quite well balanced for the style, that said very hoppy. Medium body, lively carbonation, nice creamy mouthfeel, dry and very long finish with high bitterness, lightly abrasive (fortunately). One of the best IPAs I’ve tasted so far.

Bottle from brewolf...thanks Michael! - Pours clear amber with a massive foamy white head. Aroma is malty sweetness colliding with some citrusy, grassy hops, a little licorice, and some light, mild spiciness. Taste is lightly sweet malt with some bitter, grassy hops that intensify all the way through the finish. Unfortunately, it’s just not my favorite hop profile. It has a wonderful mouthfeel, smooth and velvety in the mouth, with the bitter resin coating the cheeks. It just sits there, drying your mouth out pleasantly, but leaving behind a nasty aftertaste. I guess I liked the subtlety of the Anvil ESB better, but this was a decent IPA as well--just not as great as I was expecting.

On draught from Local on 4th.. Pours a very familiar cloudy, hazy apricot with a touch of white head foaming at the top.. the smell of faint vanilla beans and that lovely pine infused hopiness that begs me for just another wiff, like a perfume pusher at the mall only this I must also taste... The initial hit to the palate is of course dressed with some bitterness but very well overall with notes of floral hops, citrus and a nice touch of caramel or as crazy as this sounds almost a marshmallow taste on the back of the bite.. Drinks extremely smooth for an IPA and I cant believe Ive already asked for another... Its a very well constructed IPA all the way around and one that will definitely make it into the rotation. I cant believe it took me this long to finally rate it..

Pours a light yellow. Aroma is of honey and grassy hops. Taste is pretty light, mostly of hops, but also hops. A little disappointing.

My sample had a very high CO2 content, almost Champagne like. At first I was worried that the beer was infected, but it tasted clean and fresh. The nose is ripe and busting with fruit and yeast aromas. The palate is medium in body with a crisp dryness that lingers with flavor hops through the finish. I would like to do a side by side with Two Hearted.
