Jabah (2555) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAR 5, 2019UPDATED: MAR 5, 2019 Found this to be sort of like a black IPA, but not as hoppy. Thinner than what the appearance seems. Balance of chocolate malt and hops is decent. Liking all of the Clown Shoes so far...and glad to see them starting to distribute the 12 oz. 4-packs.
hopdog (24842) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 10, 2017Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Roast, citrus, and some earth.
Bulk_Carrier (6064) - Vermont, USA - MAY 12, 2017Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of an eggshell foamy white head. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some roasted malts, light floral hop tones, light orange peel, light coffee beans and ended with a touch of dark chocolate.
The flavor was somewhat roasty with that floral quality sweetness. Some bitterness from the orange peel but really not that noticeable. Aftertaste was mainly the roasted malts and dark chocolate. Finished with the same but brought in a touch of that orange peel bitterness.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Mild carbonation and the ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, as a black IPA, well, it somewhat works, but as I normally associate the style with "palate wrecking" capabilities, I didn’t really see that with this one. Maybe again.
