| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2009 pours out super thick and black with no light penetration with a thin dark mocha colored head. the aromas are coffee. well.....i also get a good amount of chocolate, roasted malts, carmelized sugar, plum and dark ripe fruits. it is full bodied with an amazing taste in which all the ingredients work in harmony. it is like a symphany on my friggin tongue. i taste the noted coffee, very nice and not overpowering, works really well with the tasted malts. it has a very creamy velvety mouth feel that feels like silk as it slides down the back of my throat. it is a little bitter from the coffee, but not to much from the hops that i can tell. it finishes a little watery and leaves a very soft aftertaste which is very plesent. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Deliciously complex and well blended aroma, but not very strong. Coffee, caramel, and vanilla are predominant, but charred oak, raisins, and molasses are also easily detectable. Deep dark brown, slightly viscous pour, headless. The flavor is strongly of espresso with pruny vanilla undertones and a lasting charcoal finish. Nice mouthfeel, medium body, a little light on the carbonation. A tad off balance toward the dry side. A stout lover’s wet dream. Pretty freaking awesome! EvilKingWilson (14), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 25, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Dry aroma of roasted coffee with a touch of cream. Pours a dark brown with a moderate amount of relatively dark, grayish-tan head. Produces good lacing. The taste is overly bitter with a sweet, fruity finish. Coffee and alcohol flavors. I don’t like coffee, so this doesn’t do much for me. It does become more bearable on multiple sips. Burnt, dry aftertaste that is not good. Moderate body. Creamy in the palate. Easy to drink. This seems like a relatively well-made if simplistic brew. Given its strong reputation, I was hoping the beer would be good enough to overcome the coffee additive, but it’s not. It literally left a bad taste in my mouth. Oh well; it’s just another reminder to stay away with anything contaminated by coffee. nittanytide (36), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 24, 2009 From the tap. Black with tan, slowly dissipating head. Sweet malty aroma. Taste: Nothing at first and then…there it is! Rich chocolaty taste slides over your tongue, with just a little bit of coffee bitterness in there to add character. Very delicious.
