COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Civil Disobedience, our non-violent protest against the homogenization of flavor, comes in the form of a spontaneous, circumstantial, and unpredictable series of beer releases. We relinquish control in favor of an anarchistic collaboration of microbial activity. This is the expression of our conscience, our opposition to oppression, and an act of creative freedom. Civil Disobedience (1849), Henry David Thoreau’s moral call to action, is a perennial challenge against the contemporary sopor of individual political conscience... "It is not too soon for honest men to rebel and revolutionize." Question. Act. Evolve... Civil Disobedience #1: A blend of two different batches of Arthur and a bit of a beer called ’mimosa’, a saison brewed with orange zest and brett clausenii. All stainless. Not barrel aged.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2024 Bottle from the brewery. Bottled in Feb 2017. Batch 27... Been sitting in my cellar since. Pours a red-ish/orange-ish color, good head that faded fast. Nose of sour grapes, saw dust, straw. Taste is border line sour, more tart. Dry grapes, hay/straw. Body is light and refreshing. Easy drinking. Overall good beer

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2020 Bottle at the legendary Best West share before the hail storm Anniversary party in 2013? They all blend together these days. Even then, I remember this being past its prime. Oak, leather, pepper, brett, and a touch of citrus. Not the greatest CD especially compared to 5 and 7 which will always be up there for all time favorites.

*1/10/2014 750ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass. A~ glowing yellow with a nice head and a little bit of lacing. S~ lots of citrus up front, lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit. followed by some peppery saison yeast. all leading into some hay/straw like brett funk. T~ once again the taste is more subtle than expected like CD2. pretty much follows the nose to a T. definitely a lot more citrus going on here though, oh its the little bit of Mimosa! M~ a lot thicker than i expected but in a good way. still super smooth and refreshing. nice carbonation as always. O~ such a nice treat! i love to see how all these brews blend together. you can really tell that its 2 versions of Arthur surprisingly, if that makes sense haha. and i’m gonna say the little bit of Mimosa adds that nice citrus of course, and more! this really held up better than i expected, still worth drinking if you have a bottle!

750ml bottle in an HF tulip. Pours hazy golden with a big, lacy, white head. Aroma of a lot of Brett and light funkiness/tartness, some pale and light caramel malts, some light citrus, and light fruits/spices. Flavor a really cool blend with a lot of Brett. Average HF light saison texture. A cool beer that I’m glad I got to try.

This is a beer I’ve been trying to track down for a while. I met a Ratebeerian in California who wanted to share some beers. He gave me a choice between a 2001 3F Oude Gueuze or a Civil Disobedience #1. I chose this because I’m a weirdo. While the Gueuze may have held up better, this was a real treat!

A - Insanely cloudy but most of these traveling beers are. Although, the hint of Mimosa may have led to this being a bit cloudier. More of a dark yellow, fluffy head and huge carbonation. Not a gusher just a lot of carb on each pour which is a very welcome thing.

S - Smells like Vanilla and Cream Soda with a tiny bit of wet cardboard and ropy leather. Nice grassy notes but clearly showing its age.

T - Taste was good and improved as it warm dup throughout the evening. Taste is loaded with a ton of funk and Brett and really hearty ropey leather. Finish is nice. Slightly cheesy and bitter orange peel and spice at the finish. Cardboard and funk lingers

M - Great mouthfeel, full bodied lemon meringue texture.

O - This beer was probably excellent a year ago but a Summer 2011 beer may not have just fallen off but who knows how well it was stored and how many hands it changed over the years. Still, it was great to try this. Thanks CheepBeerBuzz for sharing!

pour is clear yellow, bubbles flowing throughout, pure white head. Nose has fair bit of Saison, light pepper, hints of citrus and maybe a faint touch of barrel. Taste is similar, Saison yeast and light pepper, a bit sweeter, citric and lemon with a bit of malt showing. Still rather dry and highly carbonated. Not as bright as Ann, a bit less deep and a touch sweet in the finish but still extremely drinkable with gentle barrel integration.
