COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoked Imperial Rye Porter aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels. A rich porter layered with rye spiciness and earthy smoke, caramel-like flavors, roasty malt and oaky deliciousness.
Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in rye whiskey barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile. This is one of our favorite beers at the moment, we hope you agree.

An aged keg tapped recently at the Foundry. An extraordinarily flavorful sipper. The aroma is smoky and sweet, and the flavor is both vanilla and chocolate with just a hint of smoke and alcohol. Sip, drink water, sip... and an hour or more goes by. Lovely.

(The Bruery Smoking Wood - Rye Barrel) Bottle 750ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 13% Black coloured body, small and a bit thin dark brown head on top, with average retention. Aroma has rye, lots of wood, cork, vinous notes, light smoke. Taste of rye, whiskey, peat, light smoke, lots of wood, oak, faint sourness but mostly sweet, alcohol as it warms up, vanilla. Medium body, carbonation on good levels. Sticky palate. Very good, even better when it got warmer.

This is retired? Well, I didn’t see any date anywhere, but this was quite good. Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a black color with a semi-thick foamy off white head. Lacing slides into the beer nicely. The aroma has a superb blend of sweet to spicy rye malts rolling over a nice chocolatey porter base and imparting over some roasty to woody to an ever so sly smokiness. Some whiskey sweet booziness does hit with a slight bourbon-esque edge. The flavor brings together all of those previously mentioned aromas to a boozy sweet and ever so slight edge. Sly smoke. And then a smooth boozy aftertaste leading into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a great sipping smooth body about it. Mild carbonation. Rye harshness wants to be there but mainly smoothed out. Overall, imperial porter, that’s what I say with a ton of extra goodness from a lot of other great qualities. I would love to have this again and wouldn’t mind having in my cellar.

2014 vintage on tap at Park Burger RiNo. Black pour with no head. Huge bomb of an aroma featuring smokey oak, star anise, black licorice, black roast malt and black pepper. Surprisingly smooth and delightful flavor that’s sliky, dark chocolate malty sweet, peppery, smokey, Oaked, with star anise and light licorice and light smokey booze and more bittersweet dark chocolate. Amazeballs.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color porter with a nice medium size dark brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of chocolate notes with some light smokey notes and some rye whiskey notes is pretty awesome. Taste is also a very well balanced mix of smokey notes with some rye whiskey notes, some woody notes, some black chocolate and plenty of residuals sugar notes. Body is full with nice creamy undertones and good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. I like how the smoke notes are well balanced against the other flavours. Very compel and one great nightcap.
