| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 16, 2003 The beer pours a nebulous deep brown color, the head portly in size, frothy in structure, the color a light tan with the residual lace a nice coating upon the glass. Nose is a bit plummish, sweet malt, fresh and pleasant to the senses with a sweet malt start and the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is stingingly acidic, the hops purposeful in their spicy bite, quite dry aftertaste and a nice warming sensation from the relatively high ABV, Quite a drinkable beer, and much better than the blond. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 29, 2003 Orange-red colour with a beige, frothy head. Chunks of sediment. A fruity yeast aroma. The flavour is on the sweet side, yet well balanced. Classic Belgian flavour. Not my favourite style, but good. SteC (128), Oostende, Belgium

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 29, 2005 Muddy color with a thin white film for a head. The aroma is very mild with no one scent really jumping out. Obviously plenty of malt with a little spice. Mouthfeel is smooth and rich with again, no one flavor standing out. Earthy is a good word to describe this beer. Very nice and easyto drink. Jjust not a show stopper. Ringo (959), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2005 Pretty good but not in the league of Rochefort or Westvleteren. It’s a little bit "hot" but not so much so as the regular 8. It lacks the caramel plum smoothness of the much stronger, previously mentioned beers. This one tastes like 12% where the others taste more like this beer’s 8%. It does have a nice warming effect though. Overall a good beer but not as much so when I can buy Rochefort 10 for the same price. Drew (2411), Kent, Ohio, USA
