COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Kleg (2979) - The Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 4, 2023
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2023 Draft at the brewery in Juneau, Alaska. Pitch black color with a small beige head. As expected, it has a smoky aroma with a hint of molasses. I taste the smoked flavor, but not much porter flavor. Light molasses flavor too, which becomes more pronounced as it warms. Medium body and low carbonation. Low bitterness for 45 IBU.

solidfunk (20023) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - DEC 11, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 11, 2022 Smoke and roast. Pretty good balance. As an old school top beer, not sure it holds up to newer examples of the style, but it's decent. Black pour with decent head and lacing. Bittersweet finish. Bottle.

hayayoshi (629) - Colorado, USA - DEC 3, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 3, 2022 Aroma of smoke, leather, chocolate. Dark brown pour with reddish around edges of glass. Taste of white pepper, smoke, malt, little bitterness. Even a little dry.

Bricktop86 (2155) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 14, 2021

chinhaez (413) - Ouray CO, Colorado, USA - MAR 25, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2021 Bottle 2018 edition. Blackish with a small khaki head that has good retention. The aroma is old smoldering campfire. The taste is what you expect in a good smoked beer--lots of smoke set in a moderately bitter ale base Finishes long with lingering smoked meats. Overall: A winner.

coasternut (1904) - VANCOUVER, Washington, USA - JAN 26, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 26, 2021 I'm not a big Porter/Stout fan but this one is quite good. The smokie taste is minimal, but just enough for a good flavor. It pours a chocolate brown with a medium head that is a dark cream colored. It is medium bodied and in that capacity it's mouthfeel is lighter than expected. This is a 2020 vintage so I did not age it. If I can find another bottle I'm going to age it and see if it gets better.

dutchdarthvader (2153) - NETHERLANDS - AUG 16, 2020
75cl fles editie 2013 Proefglas

tfontana (5562) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - APR 5, 2020
UPDATED: APR 5, 2020 Bottle (9/18/12(!)) pour from trade with Johnnniee--thanks, John! Appearance is clear, dark brown (dark ruby with light source directly behind) with tons of sparkle at the edges of the glass, 2-finger-width creamy khaki head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is sweet malts along with noticeable complementary smoked wood. Taste is strong smoked wood (cedar?) mellowing to richer generic campfire smoke which dominates the roasted malt backbone. Mild dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with silky smooth texture, soft carbonation, mild alcohol warmth (which seems appropriate) and finish as taste. Overall, fairly unique amongst smoke beers--not necessarily wild about the initial blast of smoked wood, which is like cedar, and the overall smoke obscures the base beer but it mellows to a decent place and appears to have held up reasonably well so you really can age it. Lovely mouthfeel.
