Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. Poured from bottle. I think I am starting to be able to identify a Bear Republic beer by aroma only -- citrus, lavender, and a touch of moss rose. Color is caramel -- not much head, no lace. Taste is all hops up front, but opens up into a complex, rich malty toast. Very nice beer -- I just wish it had a touch more appearance to it.

A satisfying, hoppy red ale. Whatever the style origins, this is a nice beer with a lot of flavor. It’s aggressively hopped, a sweet blend of citric, floral and spruce notes. The malt brings some deeper caramel flavors, toasty sweet bread and burnt sugars. There’s a good yeast flavor that dries out the finish beyond the already dry tone of the beer. The mouthfeel is creamy and a bit oily with hops. The beer looks great, carmine liquid with a thick layer of off-white foam. Bear Republic makes good beer.

Very good, I thought it was an IPA though. Medium bodied and lightly spicy, but mainly hop dominated. Some caramel malts in the background. Grapefruit aroma. Dry finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours a beautiful deep amber red brown color, still glowing with a thick creamy off white head. Aroma is nicely blended with citric and pine forward hops, along with a sweet cake like malt, blended chocolate and just a hint of tartness in there, quite strange but I like it. Flavor is also nicely blended, dark fruits and spices in the front, mixing into chocolate and finally piney hops before a lightly bitter finish. Medium body and a spry carbonation. Really nicely put together beer.

650 ml bottle sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. Amber body with a thin beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel and citric hops. Flavor is sweet, good malt, caramel, dry fruit and citric fruit with a light and pleasant oxidation. Nice flavor, good balance - a big beer at only 6,8 ABV.

Bottle: Pours aglowing ruby amber color with a short lived beige head. Lots of sticky and creamy lacing. I dig this type of aroma with rich citrus sweetness, faded ctirus hop bits, caramel, and candied fruit. Delicious! The flavor is full of citrus and florals, caramel, faint vinous notes, and candied sugar. Lingering bitters in the tail are sweet and floral. Quite nice.

Hazy ruby amber with lots of sediment. Thick beige head. Aroma of earthy pine, dank resin, molasses. Taste is heavy bitter hops, very dank, just enough toffee/molasses to balance. Long bitter finish. Medium body, low carbonation.

12oz bottle (2009) into a pint glass. Pours reddish with a fluffy off-white head. The aroma is hoppy, but a bit malty. The flavor is chocolately with a hint of peat and a dose of soapy citrus hops.
