COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First came a toasted smug called Yin followed by a hoppy fella called Yang. Let me introduce you to Auld Yin – a wrinkly more experienced take on youngster Yin. 9 months in the company of an insightful, complex whiskey cask made a pretty interesting spin on this imperial tajii taste adventure. Aye! 2012 vintage - 12.0% abv

BeerViking (9209) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 15, 2016
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2016 Bottle from Denmark - thanks, Martin! Pours near black with a coarse tan head and aromas of whisky, black treacle and umami, with a hint of vanilla. Initially sweet, then a darkness moves across the palate - burnt treacle, liquorice, tobacco leaf, black raisins, smoke, an edge of burnt gravy - before the sweetness returns in the finish. The aftertaste is smoky burnt syrup, a little sweet vanilla-cream and peat.

33 cl bottle poured in to a Snifter. 2012 vintage, expired in 2015. Pitch black with a fully gone head. Sweet aroma with dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, liquorice, peated and wooden notes. Vanilla and tobacco. Taste is sweet-roasted. Full body with an oily texture and a flat carbonation. Long lasting dry, roasted finish with a hearthy amount of peat, whisky barrel and dark malts. Lovely barrel ageing. Should’nt be stored anymore.

Bottle 2012 vintage poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, whiskey, oak, vanilla, cocoa and light butterscotch. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, whiskey, light oak and a hint of vanilla with a smooth lingering chocolate whiskey finish.

corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 13, 2015
Pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger beige head. Excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting ring. The glass is left coated with sheets of soapy lacing. Looks great. Slightly smokey, peat-y whiskey barrel aroma with earthy oak, spicy spirit, vanilla and coconut. Strong barrel presence with a prominent spicy whiskey character but still has plenty of roasted and silky malt notes. Hints of milk and dark chocolate, oatmeal, toffee and gourmet coffee bean balancing out the barrel. Excellent spicy whiskey barrel presence that’s perfectly integrated into the complex malt bill. Dry oak is prominent with great whiskey flavor. Subtle vanilla along with silky chocolate, caramel, toffee and oatmeal. Slightly smokey with deeply roasted coffee bean compliment the whiskey flavor perfectly. Really complex yet easy to drink. Plenty of alcohol flavor but not overly hot. Abv well masked with subtle warmth in the finish. Way to easy to drink considering how strong it is. Another impressive beer from this brewery.

(Bottle. 12.0%) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with strong black coffee, cacao, oak wood, whisky, brown sugar, a touch of treacle and hints of tar and peat. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, chocolate truffles, liquorice, soy sauce, treacle and a warming finish with whiskey, toffee, a touch of alcohol and a generous coffee bitterness. Full body, soft and rounded mouthfeel. A certain sweetness coming through. Tasty and quite powerful, but still very well balanced. Excellent stuff!
