Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

This is outstanding. It pours an almost copper red and gives of huge hop notes. The mouthfeel shows hops and citrus and it finishes with a dense hop flavor along with a lighlt bitter finish.

Sixth barrel on tap. One of my favorite Amber Ales. Very nice hop flavor and finish with a nice floral aroma. However, the hops are also nicely balanced by the caramel malt character of the brew and the malts don’t take over the finish as they do in other ambers I’ve tried. I’m a fan of MANY independent brews, but I keep HopBack around all the time!

12oz. brown bottle. One of the prettiest looking pours i have seen. A deep red color and a gorgeous thick and creamy head that is very lacey. Has a hoppy floral smell to it. Not overwhelming hoppy as far as taste. It is very very smooth drinking with a slight caramel flavor to it and very subtle spiceyness. This is a very tasty and very drinkable brew. This is my first sample of anything from Troegs but i really like the mouthfeel and flavor and the way it finishes. 90/100

If you like hoppy flavored beer (which i don’t) you will love this beer and this brewery. For me the hops was to much, didn’t enjoy it at all.

Bottle. Great beer. Really pushes the hop barrier on the Amber Ale categorization. Quite hoppy aroma, floral. Flavor is a bit more balanced. Some nice, sweet, caramel malt character along with substantial hop presence. Medium in body. Crisp, hoppy finish. Tasty stuff.

Sampled at Central New York Brewfest, Syracuse NY. 06FE10.

App.: Clear amber with white rim. Aroma: Some nice C-hops, lots of earthy, nutty, British malts, there’s a weird note of shit (honestly). Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence. Flav.: Better than the nose with very juicy grapefruit hops, pine, some decent malts, good on the whole; off-dry with decent bitterness and a hoppy finish.

Mouth trumps nose (phew!).

Strong hoppy aroma, very clean finish that differentiates this from many stong hop beers . Nice amber to orange, deep color. Satisfying beer

Color is a beautiful, rich, orangy amber. Nice bitter aftertaste. Aftertaste is better than taste, though. Aroma is a bit weak.

Bottle poured into a pilsner glass produced a dark amber body with smooth, creamy, off-white head. Aroma of earthy malts and fruits. Flavor of pine, spruce, light fruits, and slightly sweet ginger with a slightly bitter finish. A perfectly balanced ale and one of Troeg’s best.
