Very nice hop flavor and finish with a nice floral aroma. However, the hops are also nicely balanced by the caramel malt character of the brew and the malts don’t take over the finish as they do in other ambers I’ve tried. I’m a fan of MANY independent brews, but I keep HopBack around all the time! BigMike (42), Pennsylvania, USA

One of the prettiest looking pours i have seen.
A deep red color and a gorgeous thick and creamy head that is very lacey.
Has a hoppy floral smell to it.
Not overwhelming hoppy as far as taste. It is very very smooth drinking with a slight caramel flavor to it and very subtle spiceyness.
This is a very tasty and very drinkable brew.
This is my first sample of anything from Troegs but i really like the mouthfeel and flavor and the way it finishes.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2010 Bottle. Great beer. Really pushes the hop barrier on the Amber Ale categorization. Quite hoppy aroma, floral. Flavor is a bit more balanced. Some nice, sweet, caramel malt character along with substantial hop presence. Medium in body. Crisp, hoppy finish. Tasty stuff. probstk (1188), Nepean, Ontario, Canada

App.: Clear amber with white rim.
Aroma: Some nice C-hops, lots of earthy, nutty, British malts, there’s a weird note of shit (honestly).
Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Better than the nose with very juicy grapefruit hops, pine, some decent malts, good on the whole; off-dry with decent bitterness and a hoppy finish.

Nice amber to orange, deep color. Nice bitter aftertaste. Aftertaste is better than taste, though. Aroma is a bit weak. TreborWhip (123), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of earthy malts and fruits. Flavor of pine, spruce, light fruits, and slightly sweet ginger with a slightly bitter finish. A perfectly balanced ale and one of Troeg’s best.
