Awesome jet black appearance with a good tan head then can be added to whenever you wish by a quick swill. Wonderful nose of heavy liquorice, malt, vanilla and spice. Stunning creamy alcohol type notes. Flavour more of the same but just slightly let down by the huge huge alcohol. Plenty of burn that is just about tollerable but in a so wrong it’s good way. Full bodied and sweet and fruity and all round excellent. Aged bottles are fantastic.

Cherries, berries and lots of marzipan in the aroma. Also some chocolate. Rather sweet like most Anker brews. Palate is smooth and silky, alcohol well hidden. Very good. Dark amber red with a beige head fastly disapearing. Intense malty nose, it has the coca cola nose that all dark carolus carries in my opinion, with candied oranges, figs, dates. Full body, super malty with a long malty and sweet finish. This beer must have had better days but I’m impressed considering it was botlled in 2003 or 2004. No sign of overly oxydized beer here, just a bit one-dimensionnal, but it’s probably the age that did it. Nice winter warmer. downender (2832), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England

Opaque, ruddy brown in colour with plenty of carbonation and a thick off-white head. Aroma of candy sugar, cinnamon and berry fruit. Sweet flavour, with more cherry fruit, liquorice and marzipan, before a dryish finish. Good. toby540 (35), Belgium

I’m not usually a huge Belgian fan, I really enjoyed this beer. The aroma, mouthfeel, flavor, all were one hundred percent spot on. Honestly, THE perfect winter time ale, which would pare perfectly with an evening by the fire, or any other winter time activity. Cheers!
