COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottled, special
A strong, complex dark beer in the 18th century style that was brewed for export to the Russian court. It has plenty of malt character with low levels of carbonation and huge roasted chocolate and burnt malt flavours. Best served with a little warmth. As it can be both sweet and bitter and always full bodied we suggest choosing a similar route with your food. For cheeses go with a robust farmhouse, crumbly blue or strong goats cheese. For mains go with red meat or game, a well marbled rib eye or even a full fat burger compliment this stout really well. You have lots of options for dessert from chocolate brownies to tiramisu and coffee cake or espresso ice cream. Even apple or pecan pie and cheesecake go majestically with this bottled beer.

Bottle split at Chriso Easter tasting, acquired from Callans Dundalk, 04/04/15. Black with a decent tan head that retains well. Nose is charr, spice, earthy roast, chocolate, dark toffee. Taste comprises raisens, dark fruits, light spice, bitter chocolate, dark malts, tar. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, big roasty smacks in the close. Ok stout, lacks depth for the style but an easy drinking offering.

Bottle at ChrisO’s. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, juicy, roasted malt, cocoa, dark chocolate and ash. The taste is bitter-sweet, earthy roast, juicy, toast, wood, leather, light burnt notes and chocolate cake with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well-rounded and rather drinkable. Decent.

Bottle shared at chriso’s Easter 2015 tasting - London. Cheers to Colin for this one I think. Pours black-brown with a thick, tan foam head. The aroma holds milk chocolate and lots of ashy roast. Medium sweet flavor with subtle peat notes, some earthy bitterness, cocoa, smoke. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with further chocolate impact, subtle maple accents, moderate ashy roast and scorched earth. Not bad.

Great beer thanks to Andrew. Pours a pitch black color with a medium brown head. A big sweet nose with roasted malts, some brown sugar and dark fruit. Ash, dark roasted malts, caramel, some vanilla, oil, more heavy roast. Damn nice. A gentle palate. Excellent.

Bottle courtesy of Andrew and douglas88, thank you gents! Completely black color, thick dark brown head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of licorice, rich dark bittersweet cocoa, burnt cofee, dark fruit. Taste is smooth, rich, slightly fruity, slightly sour, very roasty and complex. Very tasty.

500ml bottle, pours dark tan with a high froth three finger head which dissipates. Beautiful malt chocolate smooth coffee aroma. Slight carbonation with a beautiful full flavoured taste of malts and smooth chocolate, sweet with little bitterness. I enjoyed it with red meat. A classic, high,y recommended.

Poor choice labeling this as a Russian Imperial Stout, anyone who has explored craft beer or beer in general for more than a day will know that there are a few red flags here. First being the 7% abv, not going to cut it, some regular stouts are more than that. Second is the watery pour, Dark Lord, Speedway, etc. are like tarmac pouring into the glass, this was more like Guinness Extra Stout. Third is the flavor, again watery, thin mouthfeel, some roasted coffee and hints of chocolate, but nowhere near the complexity of a well made RIS. Disappointing on most levels, this shows a lack of care on the brewer and a lack of respect for those that would buy their products.
