Pours a slightly red caramel brown color with an aroma of berry and lots of it, and a tad bit of malt and alcohol. Flavor is berry, and Ibrew2or3 is right: sickeningly sweet at times and a good deal of alcohol. Interesting, glad I got to try it. mar (2209), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 14, 2009 At least 1 year old (labeled barleywine). Pours a warm reddish orangy amber with a thin offwhite head. The nose is full of raspberries. Sweet with a good dose of malt. Akin to a lightweight Fort, as there are no signs of alcohol. A heavier body, but not what I’d expect with a high ABV beer like this. The flavor is a letdown after the nose on this. A blunt raspberry tingest astringent maltiness. The alcohol peeps out. The raspberry almost tastes a bit fake, maybe like Robitussin? I have to guess this would have been a bit better fresh. There’s something sharp in the finish, maybe it’s the acidity of the raspberries. Lingering raspberries and light cream. travita (2131), Frisco, Texas, USA

Not sure if this made the beer more expensive or a warning to those scared off by an older beer. anyways....pours a deep, syrupy coppper color with a small foamy white head. Nose is sweet raspberry puree with a light caramel note. Palate is thin and syrupy with a big tart finish.
