Commercial Description:
Released for the winter season, this hearty stout starts off with an espresso aroma, followed by a smooth roasted malt flavor. We age this beer for over 2 months to allow the alcohol to mellow and the flavors to balance. Despite the beers alcohol content (8.0%) and intense flavor, this beer remains smooth and very drinkable.

Dark brown, maybe even black. Roasted aromas. Acidic coffee flavors dominate with some weird bitterness in the ending.

Thanks to Maniac for this growler sample. Pitch black with slight tan at the edge. Some carbonation rises with swirling. Faint coffee aroma. Coffee and chocolate flavors in a medium palate. Decent, but not complex. Overall, not bad.

Thanks to goldtwins for sharing this. Dark black beer with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is deep and rich with a prominent caramel /dulce de leche sweetness. Dark coffee and heavy roast over the sweet dark malts. Flavour is oddly thin though, despite the promising aspect of the aroma. Coffeeish with lots of dry roastiness throughout. A bit of tartness in the middle followed by a heavy acrid roastiness. Thinnish finish. It’s okay, but it’s not great.

Event: DarkLord Day 2007
Location: Evening tasting in jquire’s room at the Hampton Inn. Thank you for hosting Jeff!
Serving: Sampled from a 1 liter flip-top bottle.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Semi-sweet chocolate.
Appearance: Pours black with a small tan head.
Flavor: Dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and some sharp alcohol bit here and there. Lightly hoppy. Dry, bitter chocolate finish.
Palate: Medium-full body slick texture and a bit thin from time to time.
Overall: Pretty good. I haven’t had a DuClaw beer yet that I haven’t liked!

From a nice 1 liter flip-top. Thanks again Jason! Poured a nice deep black color with a beautiful shade of brown foam. Aroma of......whoa......oops, infected bottle. Well, caught at a great time however, just before it became undrinkable. There still remains some nice flavours of hot chocolate and coffee. A rather copious amount of flaked oats and/or barley must have went into this one to give it an exceptionally silky and creamy smoothness which was the highlight for me. With the sour character, I perceived much of the finish as chocolate covered cherries........interesting. Not bad considering it was on its way out.
