brexitgiftshop (302) - GERMANY - AUG 13, 2022UPDATED: AUG 13, 2022 This is a review in memoriam.
Surely the best German IPAs ever made from this brewery!
Super bitter, very full tasting, beautiful orange colour.
RIP!!! If only this would be made again.
Bought often at Marouns, Pfungstadt, and then it disappeared. Seems it was brewed in München after it left the Odenwald, but then the trail goes dark...
Tried several from this brewery and all top notch!
PLEASE BRING BACK!!!

Grumbo (19923) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - JUL 7, 2020UPDATED: JUL 7, 2020 Bottle from biershop.com, 6.1% abv. Poured clear dark amber gold with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, malt, flowers and light pine. Medium sweetness, bitterness and body. Oily texture, average carbonation. Was quite enjoyable.
Hopotronic (40) - Schleswig-Holstein, GERMANY - JAN 1, 2020UPDATED: JAN 1, 2020 Not sure this should still listed as retired. I agree that the first version is vastly different from today, but it is now the third 'generation', moving from a cheap label homebrew style beer to a professional IPA. To put it into a context: I think Himburg produced the first German IPAs that could compete with American ones: Mandarina, Amarsi and Laguna, that seemed to emulate Lagunitas (but surpasses it, easily).
The first version was my favorite beer at the time, the second version was okay, this third version, now from the can, is closer to the first one. So this might influence my judgement, as it put me on a trajectory of loving piney, intense IPAs.
The current version (6.8 ABV) has
Deep Orange, Hazy Colour, Nice Carbonation. Aroma: More like peach but quite piney still.
Very dry taste with a lot of hops, it has an almost overhopped carbonation smell to it, like new england IPAs. In taste, it shares this quality, with a slight numbing feeling. Unlike many New England IPA's it cancels it out with a lot of Malt.
Still, I would say it is overhopped except for psychopathic hopheads like me. Still, makes it one of the best German IPAs, on par with Sudden Death and Grebhans.
Beese (17142) - Tooting, London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 5, 2019330ml bottle in 2015. Murky mid golden with a thin white head. Aroma is quite malty, with some fruity notes and citrus hops. Resinous hop flavours, with citrus peal and rising bitterness. Tad unbalanced at the end, but otherwise nice.
microbrewologist (707) - - OCT 14, 2018Tiefbernstein, angenehm karbonisiert, gute Krone. Citrus, Harz, ärherische Öle. Ausgewogenes und sehr interessantes IPA
Navers (499) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - APR 15, 2017It’s interesting how Laguna from BrauKunstKeller become West Coast IPA, while original Laguna (I have 2014 release) is more like well balanced East Coast. From malty, caramel, pine, mandarin and fruity aroma to sweet malt, resin, biscuit, orange and floral taste. Pleasant mild hoppy aftertaste leaves refreshing feeling on the palate. I will miss this beer a lot.

Blueshawk (463) - Bad Bellingen, GERMANY - SEP 3, 2016- blut-orangene Farbe mit guter Schaumbildung
- Aromen nach Citrus, Kiefernadeln, Gras und etwas Karamell
- passende Carbonisierung
