UPDATED: MAY 18, 2020 October 18, 2019 - Cask Days 2019 - Session 1: gravity cask. @11% Hazy brown, nice large lasting tan head. Smells great - sweet malt, big alcohol, some spicy bitterness - solid 8. Taste follows - simple but spot on - tangy sweet caramel malt, boisterous alcohol presence, enough light bitterness to restrain the sweetness - almost a 9 for me (I love the American BW style). Solid body, mild carbonation, medium nutty/boozy finish - loved it.

75cl bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. 06-12-2017.
BBd: not seen.
In short: tart barley wine.
Did I enjoy it: yes.
Pours hazy orange with frothy off white head. Moderate head retention, little lacing. Tart nose, malty, caramel, leathery. Medium body, average carbonation, slick texture. Taste is robust, malty, boozy, with a nice tart shift, leathery, citrusy., dry. Good.

(bottle) Aroma: orange, lemon. Appearance: orange color, small dense head. Taste: semi-dry, flavour of citrus fruits and sweet caramel, dry hopppy finish. Palate: medium to full body, low carbonation. Overall: Decent.

Hatalmas, örökké tartó, bézs hab, vörösesbarna szín. Savanykás, karamelles, gabonás, némileg fűszeres illat. Enyhén savanykás, karamelles , malátás ízvilág, markáns fűszeres aromákkal. Testes, közepesen szénsavas, enyhén keserű. Fura kombináció és nem is igazán ízlik.

Old review from June 19, 2015. Bottle from LCBO. Orangey light brown with white fluffy head. Hoppy nose, hints of caramel and toffee. Tastes of toffee with a very prominent hop bite at the end. Not bad. I still prefer English barleywines. Ended up not being able to finish my glass of this, the bitter hop and caramel sweetness started to turn my stomach after a bit.

Vells (2358) - Riga, LATVIA - JUL 13, 2017
Nice dried fruits, jam, some floral hops, overripe orange, orange peel. Light to moderate sweet with lasting bit overwhelming tartness, decent bitterness. Decent but bit offbalanced.

I’m a huge fan of beers from this brewery, except this one. I accidentally purchased a big bottle of their special edition version of their barrel-aged barleywine that uses Brett yeast, which sours it. I know that’s what is supposed to happen, but I prefer not to drink beers that taste like vinegar. I wish I had read the label more closely when I bought this at the brewery. Very disappointing. Having said that, if you’re a fan of sour beers, I’m sure this one is pretty good. Read other reviews for that assessment.

(bottle) clear, very bright orange amber colour with a small beige head; aroma of stewed fruit, jam; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter sweet finish, well hidden alcohol
