COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Taster’s Choice" is a collaborative beer between DC Brau, Ska Brewing and DC’s own legendary Pietasters. We decided to brew a coffee infused Doppelbock. This delicate gem has been lagering in our tanks since early January. An incredibly smooth malitness balanced with a subtle coffee a character makes this a standout beer and truly a feather in the cap of both breweries involved. Taster’s Choice registers at a respectable 7.4% ABV. Proceeds from the beer and launch party at the Black Cat will go to the Todd Eckhardt Scholarship Fund, set up to honor the memory of former Pietasters bassist and songwriter Todd Eckhardt, who passed away in 2001. The fund benefits students at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts through the Ellington Fund.

Editor’s Note: This entry is for the version brewed at DC Brau.

Can. Pours dark brown with red hues and an off-white head. Smells caramel, bread, yeast. Has a very cereal taste, touch of coffee in the back, very nutty, just really interesting! A really think that it works very well...it’s so unique but I definitely love it.

World of Beer, Arlington tap: Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is toasted, roasted malts, kind of like fresh and warm soft pretzels, coupled with fruitiness, and a nice little bit of hops. Taste is somewhat sweet. A little bit bitter. Quite fruity. Very well balanced.

Appearance: deep ruby pour with a thick, frothy, creamy light tan head that slowly fades, leaving generous lacing. Aroma: rich waves of roasted coffee flow up from a malty caramel-and-raisins base, with some vanilla, chocolate, leather, and cherries. Taste:sweet and sticky up front, with caramel, toffee, molasses, some chocolate and cream, then a roasty, firm coffee tone crests from the back. Finish: the roastiness of the coffee clears and dries the palate perfectly, although some sticky sweetness regains a foothold after the swallow, with a hint of smoke and booze as well . Notes: Love a doppelbock. Love ska (Pietasters in particular). What could possibly go wrong? Nothing with this beer, that’s for sure. Never would have thought of a coffee infused doppel, but after drinking it, it makes all the sense in the world. The doppel base was perfectly executed, and the coffee infusion brought a whole new dimension of flavor and roasty body. Excellent.

22 oz. bottle. A slightly hazy ruby pour with a thick khaki head. Plenty of roasted coffee, caramel, toasted bread, and touches of raisins in the aroma. Medium body. Lots of sweet caramel, graham crackers, brown sugar, and a rich/chewy bready maltiness upfront taste-wise. Some dark chocolate at the end. An earthy finish with lots of bitter roasted coffee. Hints of fennel and raisins throughout. Very tasty!
